Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
its a Canadian that been the top star in hip hop even in the US for a decade. everything is more globally connected now which is why london producers are consistently working with Brooklyn Artists. we gonna have to see what happens in the states when afrobeats starts peaking with massive global crossover records because thats coming. someone from the genre will break into that bruno mars/weeknd level stardom

The only issues with the two Canadians who are top stars in America is that they are both tied to America ethnically and through work.

Tory Lanez pretty much grew up in America to an extent and Drake was part of a popular TV show (Canadian but was popular here).

I’d love to see a Canadian who like London dudes stays in Canada and can be as successful as Drake/Tory.

Canada can be on top simply by being connected to America and speaking an English accent that is sort of similar to ours

I lied. This song makes me feel like I'm at a rooftop party in all white in Victoria Island overlooking the water with a nice breeze

One of the first songs that got me into afrobeats.:wow:

And you described it perfectly. Afrobeat is a straight up vibe, like you're on a yacht overlooking a sunset with some bad biddies on your arm.:wow:

Don't sleep on Coupé-Décalé music from Côte d'Ivoire. shyt's flames.

:banderas:

Breh...the first party I went to in undergrad with my African buddies they played Aladji.

Aladji, aladji, doogoondoon, doogoondoon,

:blessed:

I literally play this at every party I have.

For now, yes "Ye and Fall" had Summer here on smash last year. All of my ADOS friends who moved to NY and never knew or liked any Dancehall or Reggae are mad they are missing Burna Boy at Broccoli Citi Fest. I even went to a popular dancehall spot and a girl was complaining they weren't playing enough aforbeats

Nigerian migrants in Sicily are building a buzzing Afrobeats scene from scratch
Palermo, Italy
February 21, 2020

By Joe Penney

Palermo-based Afrobeats artist RayJeezy (center) in the music video for “Royalty Pt. 2,” featuring Oritsefemi.

The Ballaró neighborhood lies in the former historic city center of Palermo, the capital of Sicily, Italy. A few decades ago, Ballaró was known to be a dangerous part of the city controlled by brutal mafia bosses.

Today, the neighborhood is safe and revitalized, thanks to the arrival of African and Asian migrants. Among these immigrants is a community of Nigerian musicians building an Afrobeats industry from scratch.

There was a thread on this not too long ago.

Being a Chicago breh I can really appreciate this.

I could tell this is from SA right away because some of the beats and background melodies are recognizable.

I have been listening to this other shyt from SA...

This my shyt. :ohlawd:

What I wanted to know, what is this shyt? Is it still considered afrobeat or is afrobeat only relegated to Nigeria/Ghana/CoteD'Ivoire and the rest of West Africa?

That’s gqom bro, google destruction boyz all their music is like that

Afrobeat is beginning to be huge. Actually, Afrotrap is really huge in France. Rap music mixed with african music. You can hear it in every club and stores. MHD was the number one at one point, until he got jailed.
I haven't followed there his case

who was he accused of killing again?

Shoulda been more popular a long time ago.

Nigeria is only like a hunnid times bigger than Jamaica with a thousand times more resources. Plus when you add in other West African nations like Ghana who produce and consume afrobeats primarily, this is a no brainer.

I'm surprised it took so long. Better late than never, I guess.

Yall brehs have really blessed me this morning. :whew:

I think I've given out 1000 reps.

I have listened to every single song dropped in this thread.

Y'all dropped some piff.
Even the dancehall tracks were.:ohlawd:

A poster made a thread not too long ago about afrobeat being trash.

That shyt is a straight up lie.

As an ADOS, I wish more of us would venture out and explore more international black music.

I can tell afrobeat is the future. :salute:

i mean koffee did win a grammy & got songs placed all over media though so.........*

Some posters are ignoring this part.
For such a tiny island. It sure produces talented people.:wow:
Reggae and dancehall will never die out.
I do agree that the current wave of dancehall is not the same as in the '80s and early 2000s. :hhh:
That I will agree with. I listen to more Reggae than dancehall.

I'll definitely check out some Afrobeat. I need to expand on that genre of music. :ehh:
