this isnt contemporary afrobeat but if you arent up on the classics you gotta be. one of my favorite songs ever (extremely long though):

Also Fela isn't just for easy listening. You have to look up the song lyrics and read an article or two sharing the background.

For example Beasts of No Nation is a diss to many leaders at the time including General Buhari who is the current president of Nigeria.

If you look closely at the cover, Buhari and Regan are there with horns of a devilish beast on their heads.

Some posters are ignoring this part.
For such a tiny island. It sure produces talented people.:wow:
Reggae and dancehall will never die out.
I do agree that the current wave of dancehall is not the same as in the '80s and early 2000s. :hhh:
That I will agree with. I listen to more Reggae than dancehall.

I'll definitely check out some Afrobeat. I need to expand on that genre of music. :ehh:

Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) has estimated that the Nigerian music industry will be worth US$86 million in 2020-a HUGE sum in Nigeria. This growth may be accelerated by the foreign interests in Afrobeats as well as great revenues from digital platforms, ringtones, etc

In recent years, Wizkid and Davido inked a deal with Sony RCA , Tiwa Savage has a management deal with Jay-z’s Roc Nation, Burna Boy with Warner Records and the Naija "Chris Brown" Tekno has a $4 million deal with Sony, etc

The good thing with Afrobeats is that non-blacks will never bite the genre. Imagine a cac singing in Naija Pidgin.

I haven't followed there his case

who was he accused of killing again?

There was a brawl between two hoods and one guy got jumped, ran over with a car and stabbed. The guy died. And they say it was his car that was used and he was involved in the fight.

Jamaica is the largest English speaking Caribbean island as far as English speakers go. It’s not a surprise that many talent comes from there plus Jamaica has the largest diaspora in the Caribbean also.

98.8% of places you travel to Jamaicans will have bigger numbers than other English islands.

And the fact that they had the largest Caribbean migration to New York and London, they had a easier platform for their artist to get put on.

If African immigrants got to England before Jamaicans had time to leave their footprint, I don't think their music would be as big as it is. Afrobeat or whatever music was popular among Nigerians or Ghanaians at the time, would be dominating.

I always joke that Jamaica is a luckily island. Have the largest diaspora in the largest cities and they so happen to speak English the most popular language across the globe.
