Above the fray.
All electronic genres has its roots in House which was created by blacks Gen Xers in Chicago.

While Jamaicans and Caribbean folks of that generation were going to "bashments", blacks in Chicago were going to "house" parties. It's the music when I was younger, my young aunt's and uncles were in the basement with their friends partying to or going to clubs to hear or were playing at local college and fraternity parties.

Which is why it's interesting when I've been hearing multiple times in this thread that reggae was in it's heights in the 90's because it was pretty absent from our lives in Chicago in the 90's which was being dominated by House. Like I knew some tunes like Sister Nancy but not much more than that.
How long was House's run in Chicago?
House was huge in this area from the mid to late 80s......until the early 90s. North Jersey was one of the secondary House hotspots for the country.
I'd say that most people, regardless of age, would all give the same answer if asked what the official song/anthem for Newark/East Orange is.

It always had an association with gay men, but the music was so popular the people bumped the music, went to the clubs, and adopted the "fashion forward" clothing of gay dudes.House took over hip hop one summer when the top artists were releasing houses versions of their songs on their singles.

When you say that Chi didn't mess with dancehall, are you old enough to remember when Shabba Ranks was getting airplay on the radio? I assumed that even areas that didn't play Jamaican music would play records from a JA artist who had crossed over.
Shabba and Supercat got major label pushes in that era .Cat crossed over to an extent then too.

Reggae/dancehall has fallen off over the last few years but at its prime, Afrobeats isnt touching it, imo...
I don't even thin any west african will disagree with you on that

I remember sneaking into this one party where I was a living in Guinea as a child in the mid 90s and "murder she wrote " came on.:banderas: It was my first encounter with dancehall. I'm still scarred how effortlessly they girls were shaking there asses. They weren't getting this nasty to mandingo music being played
not reggae though. they weren't fukking with reggae in Guinea and Liberia

This is cute. But seeing how your whole style is a failed swagger Jack of my actual(Ados) culture, you still fall short on both ends. Sorry, bud:yeshrug:
I noticed you edit you post 6 minute in between your og post and this is the best you could do?

I don't even know why you're in this thread anyways. This topic is about black dominated genres, not no reggeaton. You don't belong here. Go listen to some Elvis Crespo, mutt :lolbron:

Pull up my comment Where I said Afro beats will be just as big as hip hop if not bigger ...watch I’ll give it 3 years

The argument with reggae/dancehall is a decent one, bigger than hip-hop in 3 years your tripping hard breh!
