ALC production is the only reason I listened to My 1st Chemistry Set, Albert Einstein, Covert Coup,

The Antidote. And, the rappers live up to each ALC track, and gave them justice. But, of course his

early 99/2000s classics can't be matched. But, you're missing out on his new production, which to

me is an expansion of his older material. By, the way ALC's been quiet since Lord Steppington. I bet he's in the lab, being a mad scientist:myman:

I dig how he's re-flipping old samples.

Russian Roulette was ill. Soundcheck, Veal Orloff, Moscow Mornings/Evenings, Kosmos Pt. 7...all dope as fukk. Lotta filler on there too but there's gonna be cause he's always trying new shyt.

Peep the GTA V score with him, Tangerine Dream, & Oh No. Keep a copy in the ride cause it's good driving music.

This still rings true to this day, it's why I raise my eyebrows at all this sudden "GOAT" talk that I've seen him increasingly get mentioned in off the strength of this so-called "longevity" that he possesses.

In all honesty, that post-2015 era of Alchemist production has been marred by a bunch of uninspiring, abstract and [mostly] drumless loops that can't hold a candle to his 00s and early 10s output. He'll forever be defined by that era.

I remember when he snatched the baton from Premier as the go-to guy that you enlisted to supply you with diverse bangers like: 'We Gonna Make It', 'Still Feel Me', 'The Forest', 'Definition of a Don', 'Keep It Thoro', 'I Love to Give You Light', 'G-Type', 'You Ain't Got Nuthin', 'Wet Wipes', 'Lullaby', 'The Red Carpet' and 'Break the Bank'.

At his peak, he had about 10-15 of those per year, but post-2015 you can count those types of record on one hand - 'Meet The Grahams', 'Broken Bottles', 'Rubber Bands & Weight', '94 Ghost shyt, 'We Cry Together' and maybe 'Wick Man' - and that's all almost exclusively out of two camps. Almost everything else has been extremely lackluster.

One thing about Verzuz is that it would've exposed just how much his sound has hit a wall this past decade, because all this so-called "heat" that he's provided guys like Earl Sweatshirt, Roc Marciano (none of which surpasses their 'Reloaded' collaboration) and others wouldn't have made it anywhere near a Verzuz stage,. He would have to rely almost entirely on his 00s work, despite having released more music post-2015 than he had then - absolutely tragic.

Yeah, not really feeling that drumless sound nearly as much as the aforementioned. He at one point might have been my fave in the game but most of that other stuff post 2015 or so as you said might be good at times but his earlier work was far better.

Heres what i think it is

When i listen to say rza and muggs full albums, rza specifically, he created entire styles and techniques he used 1-3 time. And moved on.

Al sits in styles for a few years.

AND

He def style morphs off different producers. When this thread was made he started his madlib phase just before and when roc got big he maxed out the drumless. I hated when he did the mix 10 samples at once thing together like madlib. Straight biting. He bites many producers tbh imo. And he uses hip hops “its ok to steal, the best do it” as his pass. Na… not into that. Thats when i stopped checkon for him like that.

Besides the boldy james west coast stuff he do, i havent FELT a alc beat in a long time like his old stuff. Its like he makes 10 bangers and waits 3-4 years and inbetween a bunch or decent/good albums and then an album banger again. So i think he knows himself. Hes just making beats all day and seeing what sticks. At some point everyone falls into the trap who makes beats.

And i said it elsewhere But muggs kills him on full albums. Not even close.

All these so called good rappers and albums alc makes are not as good as people say and WAY less replay value than the og stuff.

Hes a great producer but gtfoh with the goat stuff.

Like guy above. He has more albums released a year now than bangers he had back then. I understtand the game is changed and today its quanity over quality thing but ive seen alc get love for boring flips theyd shyt on nobodies for. He gets a pass for who he is atp. That kendrick drake diss was boring af.

He stays working with new aryists. Thats why hes relevant. he works with guys who have buzz and a push. He never made a nobody like premier muggs rza etc.

With that said I wish he just cut down on some of the work cuz hes priortizing full albums to sell over good music worth selling. I can do without atleast half of every album he put out with half the rappers he works with.

With that said hes a legend but legends are legends for legendary work. Madlib had a run too but a lot of them early madlib produced albums by stones throw signees who didn't deserve it were wack too and NOONE cares about them. But Alfredo aint pinata and he dont have a madvillain. Al needs a rapper who knows what to use like prodigy which is why they work together the best and are his best albums by far. Boldy imo is his best follab in recent years. His og roc work amazing. Recent one is boring.

It is an era thing tho. Double edged sword. You gotta stay droppin these days. It hurts the musics longevity and makes none of it special for longer than a week but makes people talk about you a few times a year. They all cant be classic… yet the coli says they all are.

:martin: I'll just say this a lot of jews in the industry i.e. drake etc..and alc/ get a pass they get to continue to make music year after year after year w/o going through those wars w/ other artists or producers like other black artists producers etc..
:martin: Thdy only just recently decided to put drake down and that was carefully choreographed....
:what: In regards producers blk producers have to do rap/r&b and sometimes branch out into pop to get critical acclaim/not to mention constantly justifying they're asking price for beats....
:martin: Whilst alchemist who's never produced a complete multi platinum album if I'm not mistaken, I believe he's still remained in the releasing singles lane, he doesn't have the credentials, nor the work ethic to complete an entire "ORIGINAL" body of work! He's still chopping and scratching old blk classics and selling it back to black folks like it's his
:mjlol:

:jbhmm: Now if a chef already has fully cooked! And prepared a3 course meal, and all you did was arrange it.... who's really the genius? Who's really the artist? Who really deserves the credit?

:martin: When it comes to the "alchemist" all's I can hear is the famous words uttered from one of our most illustrious artist lauryn hill, being echoed everytime one of alchemist songs comes on : " everything you did has already been done"....:wow:
