I'm white ... eminem is ok to me, but not in my list of top x number of rappers. But he has definitely made some songs that I like.

Speaking from experience, I think many white rap fans (especially young ones) come from a place of insecurity, and try to overcompensate that (this is common among young people in general). But, it comes across as extra weird for white rap fans -- because it seems like they feel compelled to be a fan of the BEST, REALEST hip-hop (in their view, that is).

So, eminem's whiteness and technical skill kind of cover both bases (relatable to whites AND had accepted by core hip-hop fans -- as least WAS).

Sadly, I probably did some of the same stuff when I was young. Not the racial part -- but I got really into "real hiphop" (backpacker stuff, KRS, conscious rap, etc.) for awhile. I'm still into all of that stuff, but I don't shun other sub-genres anymore. Room for everything, as long as the artist is good at what he does.

Lookiwack, it's pretty embarrassing ... but at least I wasn't making mad internet posts about it, cementing my ridiculous views in the permanent online world.
