I'm thinking of going to playa del carmen. It's south of cancun and it's more adult friendly
I wanna go to Tulum and see the ancient ruins and all that

Heard good things about Playa Del Carmen. I stayed at Excellence Playa Mujeres. Very nice resort. I think I was there for 5 days and it rained on 4 of them. 
Still had fun though. Definitely check out Tulum if you get the chance.

I don't want to go to a young kid area but will be so close we can go up there and visit for a night it's nothing
How old are you?
Heading to Cozumel for 10 days in a few weeks. Flying into Cancun and taking the ferry over from playa del Carmen.
Have been to Cozumel a lot on cruises and want to check it out because we are thinking about buying a rental or a future retirement home down there.
Thinking of Doing this in Panama or Costa Rica also. But Cozumel is the first choice. So we will vacation in the other spots later if this does not pan out.
But for a a person in there 20's. Definitely Cancun. It's real touristy but it's designed that way. Like a 24/hour party. Coz shuts down early and only have a few spots open late. Playa is really small but fun and we went to Cancun a lot when we were there.
But if you try the Mexican Riviera. Definitely stay in an all inclusive. Too much cartel activity.
We hardly ever do all inclusives. You can find a nice hotel and plenty of cheap restaurants and cheap booze for less than an all inclusive. But I can see the appeal with them though. But after 24 cruises , I don't like being locked down to one general location now.
