No, mounting a coordinated attack with a bunch of nikkas to get a cheap pop by dissing Drake using talking points crowd sourced from a decade’s worth of terminally online Drake hating nerds didn’t bump him up in my all time rankings…Future, Ross, Metro, Rocky, Weeknd didn’t get brownie points either….if he starts making music again that i actually want to listen to voluntarily (Section 80 and Untitled are projects i fukked with heavily) and increased his work rate (ie real life impactful features like “Like That” that don’t rely on Drake hate to pop), that could boost him in my personal rankings

He didn’t drop either….the only person that dropped in my personal ranking is Cole….don’t wanna hear any “I’m this I’m that” talk from him again ever in life…keep rapping about losing your virginity and folding clothes, which I never listened to…but that’s his lane

No, it's been 7 years since he dropped a good album

But Not Like Us is arguably his best song ever so he could drop a classic

I think hes back up for people whever they had him on Damn which is top 5

I have him still in the top 10 but I certainly think how he approached these records is exceptional
But its gonna be interesting what he does next. I think Mr Morale was the direction he prefer to go not chasing the limelight and doing artist based stuff even if its get mixed reception. But the battle proves he can appeal to the masses even on a diss

A lot of people are expecting him to make another DAMN full of bangers but what if hes in his Post God Son mode and wants to make a successor to Mr Morale further empahsizing his family?

Yes,
He is battling here a pop star and not a real MC, but regardless, having four diss songs in the top 10 is crazy; no one did that. Not Like Us is a classic. He gained credit in this beef. Given his competitive motivation now, I expect him to step up his game in the next album.

There’s some variables.

All time I have him top 10-12. The battle was great and he unequivocally won BUT I gotta say…

He was expected to win. Any actual hip hop head who understood how exceptionally gifted Kendrick is should have been able to tell you Kendrick was going to waste Drake. Even with Drake’s upteen thousand ghostwriters Kendrick has always been the better artist, the better strategist, the better executioner. So how much credit do you give someone for cutting the head off an ant when he’s a giant? Would Nas get moved up in the ranks if he beat Ja Rule in a battle? Actually thats disrespectful to Rule as he wrote his own songs. Would Nas get moved up the ranks if he mollywhopped Diddy in a battle? I don’t think so.

Then again what I was NOT expecting was that Kendrick would drop a diss song so great that it would break streaming records, set the internet on FIRE on its way to becoming the first rap diss song to debut at number 1, and also unite the entire goddamn West Coast. THAT is an achievement worthy of moving up the ranks a slot or two. Kendrick gave us a cultural moment that put Hip Hop back in the cultural epicenter of ALL of popular music. Beyonce put out a whole album that felt like an event but didn’t do for Country what Kendrick just did for rap. Taylor Swift sold 2 MILLION COPIES of an album in one muthafukking week, thats Michael Jackson numbers (look at the first week for Bad) and she couldn’t even do what Kendrick did. And Kendrick did it without being seen or heard from outside the music. Like think about it, we don’t even know if this man is ALIVE without the songs to prove it. He hasn’t publicly said one word, written one tweet or even put out a music video.

Yea I think given the context of the whole thing he deserves at least one slot up if you have him the top 10-15. I’m NOT putting him top 5 because I think its still ridiculous to do so but Kendrick Lamar is more important to rap than the likes of Eminem, Gucci Mane of Drake himseld

This beef hasnt moved him anywhere for me. I really enjoyed Section 80, GKMC and To Pimp a butterfly. That alone puts him somewhere in my top 10 all time.

yes, but not that much until he follows up with a near classic album (something similar to GKMC/DAMN, no more concept albums) to put the full seal on 2024 being his year completely.

I see your point, Drake was probably light work for him at the end of the day. But I do like that he showed this new generation that it's not about popularity or having the machine behind you, it's about skill and talent. They needed that reminder.

This beef was very much about sales, popularity, and the machine more than any other in Hip Hop history. You have people duscussing the charts, numbers, how the disses prevented Taylor Swift from a #1, hiw its the first time diss records went #1, etc.

In regard to a machine this is like Megatron vs Optimus Prime.

keep acting obtuse about what just really happened (and is still happening) during this beef
Of Drake being wack?

Since when do people get elevated for beating wack rappers? Especially when that rapper just got beat in recent history.

That's a horrible take.

Whether you want to accept it or not Drake is not only the top mainstream rapper from a sales perspective, but considered one of the top music artist in general in this era. He is also lyrical when he wants to be. Now whether that's his pen or one of his writers is a different story lol. Kendrick killing him like that was major.

Also not saying he is an underground level lyricist but for the mainstream he is one of their more lyrical artist.

You can’t call Drake wack for ten years and elevate the nikka for beating the wack rapper lol. I don’t care how popular he is.

I just want people to be consistent, especially when we literally just saw him get beat by a guy who is nowhere near an all timer at a point where you could argue Drake was more popular
