yes, it’s been reported by fightful that bobby (along with mvp’s backing) has refused to take pins in aew. only reason why he hasn’t been pinned or submitted. otherwise he would have already tapped out by now to orange cassidy. 
I seen videos on TT he be posting. Did one with his daughter reviewing a burger joint in Texas where he lives. Think he got a few of them. That man wanna spend his free time with his fam and enjoying his life, not being the champ and face of the company. Maybe he gets a midcard run at some point. Maybe he does get a short reign with the main title. But I don't see him as someone that wants the spotlight and just wants to go in there and do his best and help those he works with do the same.
Also pointless to compare with Melo who's prolly like twenty years younger and not really being used much lately. Not to mention the paths he takes may be completely different than Lashley as well as working under different individuals thru out their careers. Especially for a scripted show cuz Lashley could've gotten opportunities that Melo may not cuz of the booker liking or not liking him. So comparing makes no sense.
