That's really what alot of Drake and Cole's superstardom is based around; relatability.
Cole is half white and can do and say the things that regular Black People do and it appeals to them. Subconsciously it makes them comfortable with singin every nikka and ****** on a record becuz who they hear is themselves.

Define "substance". Because Drake fans think Drake has substance, and Kendrick fans think Kendrick has substance. when the reality is that none of them do if you keep it real.
I can say that at least Drake isn't some goofy abstract "choose your own hotep meaning" ass rapper like Kendrick. Duckworth aint sayin shyt.

none of those songs are great, or even good. Money Trees and Cut You Off are tolerable in small doses because they're better beats in Duck's discography than normal, then Duck's terrible voice ruins them every time.

I knew they wouldn't convince you, but your opinion is in the minority afaik and most people find these song good or great. Also I don't have a problem with Kendrick's voice, obviously you can't get over it so you're not gonna like most of his songs, but that's a purely personal feeling of yours

If they were, Kendrick wouldn't be struggling to go platinum despite a massive machine behind him and near-zero "conscious" competition.

I also hate Drake's voice 98% of the time but he still found a way to make undeniable music. He actually sounds better on 10 Bands or 0-100 than almost his entire discog. Dude put in effort.
Duckworth (who has a worse voice than Drake) is still not putting in effort to make undeniable music.
Y'all gotta understand - I'm from Toronto. I heard Drake before most of y'all. I've been dissing dude since Comeback Season came out, and I still think his catalogue is 97% unmemorable watered down pop rap. But I'm no hater. If you make undeniable shyt, I will fukk with it and champion it.
Even back then, there were signs that Drake could make memorable shyt if he got the right beat and improved his flow
Hear "City is Mine" and "10 Bands". Drake improved. Big time. meanwhile, Kendrick is sounding worse now than he did on GKMC.

Do I think my opinion is better than most on the Coli? Absolutely. There is such as a thing as well-informed, critical opinion vs shytty group-think opinion. But I'm not saying it's fact and I'm always happy to hear contradicting, well-informed opinion.

Sure the best thing about it is the beat. But to say it has nothing to do with Drake is unrealistic. At the end of the day, Drake and his team chose it and Drake brought his vision/personality to it. Which makes the song pop.
You could give this beat to Kendrick and he'd still waste it.
