I know, it should have been "Know Yourself". Still QM but a better song. ..
Can't say that one stood out either. I liked the first song with the Ginuwine sample, Energy and the track where he's actually rapping (6:00 PM in NY...or something like that). The rest of the album was boring plodding production with simplistic dumbed down flows and lyrics. A real chore to listen to.

Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
oh that's right - I forgot that Sprite are the vanguards of hip hop culture :shaq2:

It's a fukking commercial, b

breh, either you have the receipts or not. If the receipts are there obviously I'm going to agree with you.

let's not waste time on this back and forth. You got receipts? post them

Their opinion probably matters more than yours unless you start taking Billboards our nationwide.

Yeah, 6pm in NY is Drake and is his better song on the album.

Funny though a Drake stan didn't pick the song Drake actually wrote. . ..

:russ: at your paranoia

see - this is the problem. Y'all are easily influenced. A corporation puts up a couple billboards and all of a sudden, what they're saying is legit. Or worth paying attention to.

If you're a hip hop fan, and I am, and we both know it's ridiculous for Drake to be mentioned next to Nas and BIG, why sweat the billboard? That shyt's not aimed at you. It's not even about hip hop. It's about fukking Sprite. A fizzy drink. I could care less if your average Sprite drinker thinks Drake is up there with Rakim. They don't even know who the fukk Rakim is and don't care about the culture like that. Why would I sweat it?

It's not paranoia, it'a fact.

Most ppl don't know about Hip Hop like that. They see that billboard and will think that Drake is the new Rakim, Nas, or BIG. So because they reach more people, their opinion weighs heavier than you opinion.

But "0-100" and "10 Bands" are harder and better hip hop songs than 99% of the game. Them shyts are undeniable, and are better songs than anything Kendrick & J Cole have ever dropped.

Let the bytching commence.

Dude makes great music....

but he let this man piss on him In a room full of people......

That's really what alot of Drake and Cole's superstardom is based around; relatability.

Cole is half white and can do and say the things that regular Black People do and it appeals to them. Subconsciously it makes them comfortable with singin every nikka and ****** on a record becuz who they hear is themselves.

Drake: see J. Cole

Only a white dude/c00n black guy see Cole as Half-White....If he didn't tell you, you wouldn't even know...

weighs heavier in what sense?

I agree that maybe more people think Drake is the new Rakim. But they're not informed. Which is what this all boils down to.

Among informed folk, who gives a shyt?

Y'all are so concerned about what 'other people' outside hip hop culture think about hip hop. I grew up in the 90s. You think I give a fukk what some white mom in Arkansas thinks about Rakim? Obviously we should do our best to educate but I'm not tripping over the fact that hip hop at its greatest was never palatable to mainstream and the basic fact that Sprite want to sell Sprite, so they'll use whoever's hot right now to do it.

When Drake falls off, they'll get a new half-nikka (or cac, depending on just how dead hip hop is) to put up there with Ra and Nas :russ:

I don't really want to talk about this anymore. It's irrelevant to the thread, which is the fact that 10 Bands/0-100 > any song in DuckSnore's discog

Weighs heavier in the sense that their message reaches more people.

You can't be surprised that Hip Hop fans on a Hip Hop forum care about how Hip Hop is viewed to the general audience?

Why would anyone want the general public to have a misconception of the artform they love? Part of loving the art is sharing that love and helping others understand why you love it.

This is a great point, but I think this is a losing battle. The public perception of hip hop is going to be dramatically different from what the core audience thinks and I don't think there is anything we can do about it. Unless cook and brook are willing to pay for billboards. :lolbron:

Yeah you would, you always know. You can feel it.

There's a reason for why no matter how good you are if you aren't all Black or mainly Black then people just gravitate towards you differently. Naturally too.

There's a reason why Fab, Tyga, Drake, and Cole and everybody else just like them get a different reaction verses somebody like Ferg, Q, Weeknd, and Migos
