Problem is considering the Wizards an established playoff contender rather than a team that very much needs to retool if not outright rebuild.

It was a half-assed plan from the start, though. They masterminded having a ton of cap room at a time when basically everyone would have a ton of cap room, making it more difficult to compete for free agents. They won't be able to outbid anyone -- they're going to have to recruit based on non-financial factors. And other teams have more attractive situations.

The roster was mediocre. It was mediocre the season before and the season before that. The record this season should not surprise people. Average roster, below-average coach...average results. No surprise
