Never ever weightlifted but really want to start. Would getting a power cage be overkill for a beginner?
No.

Before you buy a lot of equipment go on Facebook marketplace or somewhere similar and buy a used one.

If you find out you not feeling it you should be able to sell it for what you paid for it.

If you do love it but you want to upgrade you can still recoup your initial cost by selling

Honestly I'm finding brand new power cages being sold on market place for the same price as on temu. Walmart has a few too on sale currently for maybe slightly above marketplace prices. Now they do have some cheaper but with less features to where the extra 100 to 200 is worth it. Either way I think I'm gonna go ahead and cop a cage.

Above the fray.
Overkill for a beginner

Money and space investment that is better suited to a person who has a history of lifting, who no longer has time to go to the gym. Not somebody who hasn't lifted before.

Get an expandable weight bench and an exercise bike.

Tend to agree with this. At least understand if you want to lift long term in a weigh that requires a cages.

No. You would be better off putting that money towards a coach/trainer who can teach you how to execute each lift correctly. In my opinion you are not at a point where you should be investing money in equipment.

Yes its overkill.

Planet fitness. Its a great starter gym. After a few months either you'll crap out or be so motivated to feel real weights you'll sign up for a free weight gym. After a few months at the the big boy gym revist whether or not you want/need the powercage

Honestly, kind of depends on the type of person you are. If it's easier to be in the gym and lifting, get a gym membership and trainer to start.

I lifted somewhat in the past and realized I hated being around people when I lifted, too many distractions and fukkery.

I figured out my basement was a good enough size and I was only using it for storage, so I cleaned it out and invested in a power rack and been using one for a lil over a year.
