Yeah. Worked for the Opelika-Auburn News.

Got into a head-on car crash -- with someone who worked in the back room at the same paper, she was heading to work -- on my way to interview a softball player for a feature/weekly spotlight story. At the time, I'd been in my share of car accidents and had told them of this during the interviewing process but they hired me anyway. Was placed on leave and later let go, having been deemed too much of a liability to work there.

I ended up depressed after the situation. Nearly taking a life coupled with losing a job I enjoyed and so on -- and all the worries that come with that -- put me in a bad place.

I've since come out of it and have not been involved in any sort of auto accidents in the last three years.

Can I ask why so many accidents? Alcohol? Were you naturally a "rush rush" type of person, so you had to learn to relax when driving?

TL;DR - most of them happened when I had no fukking clue what I was doing.

Long version: No alcohol or anything like that. Honestly, I just learned late. I couldn't be bothered to learn when people wanted to half-ass try and teach me. I ultimately got my license when I was 20-21, but at that point I knew enough to just pass the road test. My older brother, on the other hand, learned when he was 11 or 12.

To put this in perspective, I got my first car the day I started my first job out of grad school (23 going on 24). So I basically had to teach myself how to pay attention, how to be defensive ... basically how to drive. With it came growing pains, mental lapses, bad luck and so on.

There was one accident I was in when I was driving back from a high school softball field (the game was cancelled and no one bothered to tell me, the sports editor of the local paper, about it), it started raining again, and I ended up rear-ending the car in front of me because -- according to the driver of said car -- the vehicle in front of her slammed on brakes to make a hidden turn which forced her to slam on brakes, which forced me to slam on brakes. The car I hit didn't have a scratch on it, and no one was hurt. My shyt was totaled.

Funny thing is? I didn't need the recap of the game I was going to in order to finish the sports section that day. I was just working ahead and deep down I knew it would be rained out, and I got no answer from the coach when I called ahead, but I had to be sure. Would have never happened if I just stayed at the office or the coach had called and said, "No game today."

For example, this is gonna sound silly (:snoop:) but the last accident I was in took place because a goddamn bee or wasp got in my car. Instead of just pulling over and letting it out, I let the window down and it never flew out, instead staying in my line of sight and taking my focus away from what was in front of me. By the time my eyes were back on the road, one car had swerved out my way.

The one behind it wasn't so lucky. :francis:

The way one of my friends put it to try and ease my mind about it was that the bullshyt I went through in my 20s was the same shyt a lot of drivers go through in their first few years on the road when they're 16-17, etc. To this day, I don't consider myself good at it, and I view driving in general as no more than a necessary evil. I typically try to avoid driving at all costs unless I need to do it (go to work, run an errand, etc.). I have no qualms walking places within reason and I'm fully convinced I'm better off in a place like NYC or whatever.

I was fired from my very first job as a teen when I worked at a university textbook store at 16. I was not interested in having a job and only got it after my mom got it for me after talking to the owner to hire me.

I had no sense of work ethic or discipline for it and only lasted three weeks before they let me go. lol

I can say thus far that I've NEVER been fired :manny: Also, I always gotten a letter of recommendation from every employer I've had.

The system is corrupt sadly :( I am 22 almost 23 years old never had a job in my life :( I've never even been to a job interview :( I am afraid to get a job in the corrupt system taking advantage of people :(

My first job out of college, I got fired because I didn't get along with my direct supervisor. He didn't like me at all and it stemmed from them lying about my compensation. I was an unpaid intern at the time trying to learn enough about the field I work in. Was going to go from 0 to $300/week. It ain't shyt, but was a lot of money for someone who was working for free. They switched it up to $300/month. Had I been working at Niketown while doing the internship, I wouldn't have been stressing it.

My next job right after, I got fired/laid off also because of finances. I worked for a start up and I was supposed to get my promotion six months before I was ultimately let go. The owner kept coming up with excuses to not go through with it citing the financial state of the company. When I did get a slight raise, I was gone shortly after.

When I worked for a newspaper, I was on the overnight shift. My supervisor held the team accountable for each other's work. We had one person who couldn't keep up with the rest of us and routinely made us miss the 5 AM deadline. It got so bad that subscribers were calling and emailing to complain. They fired the whole team because of this one person. I knew it was coming too. I told my parents the day before I got fired, that I'm going to my lose my job. I was given a compensation package upon being laid off.

Last time I was fired, it was due to corporate layoffs around the country. They literally picked names at random and let us go.

My first job at a supermarket I got fired cuz money went missing one day and later they found out I had let one of the girls I was friends with alone in the office for a few minutes while we were eating dinner. Mind you all the money was locked up when she was in there and think I later found out someone else took it or some other girl that was training for my same position at the time had made a mistake. But they said I had broken a company policy. fukk it, glad they fired me. Moved on to a better job. Then a few years later I had a part-time at GameStop. Think I just stopped showing up. Don't remember what happened there. My last job I just left my manager a note when I closed the store that night that I was out. Had that planned way in advanced. Was already getting fed up with that place. And again glad I did cuz I got a much better job.
