Have you ever frozen during a job interview?

Yep, about 4 years ago. When on an interview and right at the start I had a brain freeze out of nowhere when the interviewer - who was over 20 minutes late BTW - asked me what do you know about our company. For some reason my mind went blank for a few seconds, most likely due to nerves and tiredness. (The fukked up thing is I did actually prepare well and even drove to the fukking place the night before to see where it was and what the parking was like.) Then he was like "next time you attend a job interview, do your research on the company first". :francis: The old me would have been like "I'm not the one who was late" and just got up and left but I stayed anyway and all the subsequent questions him and the other guy asked me I smashed it. I knew I'd never work there after that remark even if they did offer me the job, but I stayed just to practice being professional under pressure. At one point he asked me what what are one of the things I take seriously as an employee or something along those lines. I threw a subtle shot at him and said "punctuality".:mjlol::troll: I said I always make sure I'm on time because not doing so would be a bad reflection on myself as an employee for any company. Even his colleague had a slight split second :wow: look on his face cos he knew what I was doing.

At the end of the interview which surprisingly lasted for nearly an hour and a half, the interviewer amazingly apologised for being late but something about traffic blah blah blah (like that would fly if I was the one who was late :aicmon:) but I was like it's cool, we all mistakes....again another subtle dig for the remark he made earlier.

I didn't get the job needless to say, but that was my most memorable interview lol.

I'm noticing a trend with people saying they prepared a lot...I prepared and slipped on the last question. I think though I must not have been prepared for the way she asked it. I'm really glad I'm not the only person to freeze. All day I've felt like dying from the embarrassment.

I learned from there not to prepare too much. All you need to know is when the company got started and what they do and what your potential job role is. That's it. Anything more is overload.

Just go in and be you, cos if it ain't meant to be it won't happen regardless.

Yup when I had to show and prove on unix commands on a terminal. It was a position where it said UNIX experience preferred but not required. So I thought i was in the clear. I knew a little bit of UNIX. But for the guy I interviewed with, it was not enough. I just sat at the screen and froze :francis:. When I left I knew that was a fail. First and last time I failed to show and prove.

Great advice. It was my first management interview since graduating grad school 4 years ago. Needless to say the pressure on my back was beyond bearable, mainly because it's rare to get a interview with no experience, almost impossible. Who knows when my next chance will come :francis:

One dude was stuttering and this other chick was getting flustered ,sweating ,stumbling through sentences and just overall nervous I actually liked those people because of it but the other job had a better offer

To an extent I think interviews are like an alpha dog thing. I have had interviewers like you describe. People who are either nervous themselves, shy, or inexperienced and I tend to take over those interviews and perform better. Conversely if I interview with some one who reacts passively or unimpressed to all of my answers or is overbearing it increases my anxiety and I probably perform worse. That's why the best interviews are those that evolve into conversations because in those the balance of power is even.

I remember this internship interview I had during college. The interviewer had a bit of an attitude when he said " you may want to be writing this down" as he was talking. I got the job and the dude was indeed a dikk just as the interview indicated. They ended up not bringing me on full-time after the internship ended. The person I am now would walk out of any interview at the hint of any disrespect and be like " this isn't going to work". But you put up with things when you are in school\fresh out of school and desperate

Always I don’t know how to go off the dome i’m a written type dude
I used to be this way but i found that the over prepping made me nervous. My trick:

- Study up on the position enough to answer a few questions. Come off a knowledgable not an expert

- dont try to impress anyone. Thats a GP i follow....the person across the table is just some rando that works a company you like. Thats it. You dont suck up the cashier at you favorite store nor do you clamp up when you speak to them. Keep that same energy during the interview

- dont think of it as an interview. Its a opportunity to meet someone you'll probably never see again. A chance to make a new first impression in a time where true first impressions are rare. This enthusiastic vibe will work your favor. Im pretty antisocial but my recent interviewer in my current job always that i got my twin to do my job interview:francis:

- enjoy your time. Some offices are really nice or are in gorgeous areas. Other offices offer you refreshments. Even when my interview was a bust, i still enjoyed the trip.

- rub a few out an hour before
