@APCJoey Honestly if you want to get better I suggest you play the HOF CPU offline.
Playing on cheesy ass HOF will discipline you better because the CPU will punish EVERY mistake you make.
Other tips though:
-Switch to Broadcast Cam. Yeah I know everyone plays on 2K cam but I prefer Broadcast Generic since I can see the entire court at all times. Makes seeing which player is open easier as well.
-Learn how to play in the post
-Learn how to use the pick and roll. That's where MyPlayer can help you get better since it's easiest play to run. It's important you wait for the screener to get his feet set so the screen can be effective. If you see a defender cheating off the pick and roll use a pick and slip to have you screener cut to the basket for an easy dunk.
-Mix it up and go try to go opposite of the pick and roll sometimes. A lot of players online like to cheat off the pick and roll. Have the screener come set the screen and use R2/RT and push the right stick to the direction of the screener so your player does the hesitation move. Once you do that the defender will get stuck in that going over the screen animation and the big man will be on the opposite side trying to hedge so you will have an open lane.
-Don't always turbo through the screen. Let go off RT sometimes.
-Practice your teams jumpshots. A player that has mastered someone's release is hard to stop.
-If you're not making 3s DON'T keep shooting.
-If you see someone playing offball defense, attack that defender.
-When you're playing on ball defense don't smother your opponent. Back off and give yourself space to anticipate his drive and cut him off. Don't go where he is, go where he's going to be and cut his lane off.
-Watch this:
-Turn defensive assist all the way to zero.

Manually contest shots by pressing Y.
-Don't be afraid to throw a double team if your opponent is cheesing with one player. When you throw a double team try to rotate another defender to the open man the double teamer was previously guarding. Odds are your opponent will pass it to that guy.
-You want your opponent to shoot 3s all game. Focus on locking down the paint and don't get discouraged if you're getting killed from the in the 1st half, odds are those shots won't drop in the 2nd half.
-Use your timeouts. If you don't use them you automatically are left with 4 in the 4th quarter. Call one halfway through the 1st. Another one halfway through the 2nd. Two in the 3rd and leave the other 3 for the 4th quarter. Momentum is real as fukk in this game

so if you're having trouble scoring or your opponent is on a run call one before the game gets out of hand.
-You don't need to know every play in the playbook. A lot of them are useless anyway. Have about 3 or 4 go to ones for when you need a quick score. Use freelance offenses as well. I'm unfortunately stuck on the last gen version but most of the basics are them same on both generations.
Fist plays are pick and roll plays
Horns plays are good for 3 pointers and can help kill 3-2 zone
Punch plays are post ups

Keep at it and don't get discouraged when you lose as long as you know why you lost.
I sucked ass when I first started playing but now I'm a beast.
So make sure you keep at it breh. If I had a next gen console I'd play you but I don't so don't make me have written all of this for nothing.
