Yeah, that makes sense.

I drive a Honda, here's a picture. My mom, boss, and two repair companies look at it so far. All 4 people (including the person who hit me) say it's nothing. No dents and no major paint issues. It'll buff right out and then get painted over. Or something.

One place said they have to take extra paint off around the area to make it work. I'm not a car/paint guy so this stuff goings over my head.

Thoughts on the damage? Would you pay the extra amount for that small of an area to be painted over real good? Thanks
First off, never take the opinion of the person who damaged your car.

Secondly, if you get rubbing compound, I would suggest 3M fine rubbing compound, apply it like car wax, buff it and wipe it off, you'll see if you need a paint job or not. There's a small area that looks like it is beyond buffing and there's another section above it that looks like the paint chipped off the surface where the bumper flexed.
I would just take the dude's cash and pocket it.

Right, should never take the opinions of the person at fault.

Not sure if I know how to buff properly. I know I don't own a automatic buffer but if you mean just by hand that's probably doable.

What type of repair do you mean by "beyond buffing"? Just mean paint is needed or material?

The dude wants to see it fixed as assurance that I won't harass him and his insurance company after this. Like I could pocket the cash and then falsify to his insurance company that I was hit. He also wants me to write a statement that my car was fixed and releasing him of any further wrong doing.

Meh :/

Could be a lot worse though.. I made it out good (in the grand scheme of things)
Thanks for all the help, I'll be able to reply back in a few hours.

Rubbing compound can be hand applied. You don't need a buffing machine. You wax on, wax off. But, apply some pressure.

Assurance??? Ohhh man. :ohlawd:
DON'T WRITE ANYTHING. :dahell:

He damaged your car in the first place. If he wants assurance, you can get his insurance information to file a claim. Then, you can get a body shop quote, submit that to the insurance company. You get a check. You can get it repaired or pocket it.
If he doesn't give his insurance information to you, you can call the police just to assist in getting that information. "Hello, I was in a minor accident, a fender bender, on so-and-so date and time, at <location of accident> but it would not have warranted an accident report. But, the other driver won't give me his insurance information. Could you send a police officer to assist?"

In reality, you could/should have called the cops, and most likely, he would have got a ticket. That would have covered "your" bases and his insurance would have paid for the paint repair. Of course he wants it settled outside of the insurance paying for it because his insurance rate would go up.

unit321,

I picked up my car today from the more expensive repair shop. While the transaction took 1-1/2 weeks it went in my favor.

I switched repair companies from Maaco to Sterling and the guy at fault did not like that. I was going to pay the difference of $100 so I don't know why he was tripping. I guess he didn't like it because I switched our "agreement". He was like "What's this cac doing :comeon: " In the end, it wasn't going to effect him, he was still going to pay what Maaco quoted. He decided to let it go through his insurance as he didn't trust me anymore. He wasn't sure what I'd change next.

His insurance company was slow and the appraiser had to go look at my car two separate times! The appraiser and the repair shop fought it out for a week. In the end, I had to pay nothing out of pocket. I also had to sign nothing from the person at fault. I haven't dealt with that silly guy in 1-1/2 weeks.

I am extremely satisfied with the repair done at the more expensive shop. My car looks brand new, never in an accident. They even cleaned the interior of the car which was nice. Their scope of work was on the rear bumper, so them cleaning the interior was out-going. Of course they washed the exterior so I left with a freshly washed and cleaned car.

Off topic, sort of:
My insurance, I had a $1,000 deductible and after this whole fiasco I lowered it to $250! I have so much more peace of mind now that my deductible is so low. Get into a wreck? No problem, only $250 to repair it (from my understanding, I could be wrong)

Thanks again for all your help, unit321. You are outstanding! +1 rep for you bro

Damn. Will anybody other than the dealer have the same factory paint then?
Seems like everybody will just paint match.

Thanks for the info!

My friend just told me to take the guys money and for me to pay the $100 difference and go to the better shop. Then again, that's $100 of my own money for a accident that he caused :ld:

Let me know regarding my factory paint question, thanks.

LMAO HE HIT YOUR CAR....how is he negotiating when he's in the wrong? What kind of shyt is that. Tell him $600 or go through insurance. You shouldn't have to pay for anything.
