(1) shoooooore was ALOTTA time elapsed between the time they threw the grenades in there and him ACTUALLY recognizing them, looking around and seeing the chair, strapping himself in and pulling the handle BEFORE the grenades went off. Ol time delay ass explosives...

(2) as the General sees him floating to Earth by parachute, he calls him "one lucky sunnuvabytch".....AND THEN THEY LEAVE. Why didn't they just shoot him outta the air and be done with it?

I think emergency vehicles were showing up after that, right? Like they just wanted to scoop the guy from South America then split, not tangle with police.

plus, they was waiting for john Amos’ squad so they could fake the fire fight. It was all a big smoke screen they were trying to create but the closer real cops got to them, the harder it’d be for them.
