He was sposed to get ten years in back money... woulda been his REAL retirement...

The judge denied him all the money. Not even a cent. Said he “didnt deserve” all that money in one lump sum.... Made the company pay an extra ten years on the backend...

Sadly we all know he will never live long enough to see that money and the second he dies its not like its going to my mother. They cut it off right then and there when he shoulda got it in a lump sum already.
Cac judge?

If the company is to pay an extra 10 years, does that mean a 20 year back-payout?

Why wouldn't your mother receive it? It's been ruled his. If he dies, there's no provision for his estate? What is the precedent for that? And how does 'deserve' figure into it? Either the union fukked up, or the union cut a deal behind your dad's back.

Right now I'm eating superbly well off my degreed specialty.
However, if the wife gets the career she wants and can make at least 65k a year, I can fall back off this IT career and do a trade job that I desire.

I want to get into HVAC so badly I can taste it.

You gotta live down south or out west I’m assuming, sounds like the unions real weak where your family worked
Na homie. Nyc. My pops in best union in nyc. Thats why he atleast got what he got. But lotta guys at retirement have to fight for every penny. Especially when they get hurt which is nature of the beast.

My point is you make a lot, but you are literally shortening your life with every day on the clock. And i hen the day comes you get hurt it isnt like they take care of ya forever. Young mans game for sure.

Black people should be get more education not less. The upside is much higher going to college than working a trade.

I was taught to aim as high as possible, not to aim for fixing people’s toilets. I’d never tell my kids to aim for trades. :stopitslime:

Not saying that a degreed education isn't the goal either...But having a trade skill only makes you more marketable.
I have a degree in Computer Operations that I eat like a king off of, but HVAC is my current lust.
Can't get into that field with my degree.

I was mainly responding to the people that like to shyt on higher education like it's the thing to do. It's one thing to say that's my path in life, but they feel the need to shyt on people who decide to pursue a higher education.

Why are you so interested in HVAC if you don't mind me asking? That's a really interesting career move.

Why thank you!

I am interested in HVAC because it appeals to my mechanical aptitude. See, i have always wanted an IT position that was more hands on...I'm great with my hands. But somehow I always wind up being promoted into a software analysis/reverse engineering/composer role.
I've been promoted 3 times at my current career and it's actually the opposite of the direction I want to go. I like being in the field...I don't want to sit in a lab or in meetings all the time talking to pasty faces. The more I try to be an operations asset...the more they push me into engineering.
*sigh*

So my ultimate solution is to get out.
HVAC appeals to me because it's becoming a more computer controlled system and I can really make a difference in that area because of my skills. I understand mid-level chemistry and thermodynamics so I know how cooling and heating systems basically work. I know that not only is HVAC a lucrative area, it's also a field where I can LEARN more things that I don't know.
The other great thing about it is that it will put me around people more.
That is something that I absolutely desire. After being stuck in a lab alone, sent to the field alone, setting up comms in the middle of the fukking desert...alone, travelling all over the country alone....I want to be around people.
I'm so fukking tired of being alone.
So tired.

This attitude is exactly why cacs and Hispanics will continue to fill these well paying trade jobs.

You do understand that Apprenticeship programs are 4-6 years of classroom education and hands on training? You can continue to move up the ladder by becoming a foreman, project manager, safety supervisor etc

AMEN!

Too many mofos think college is a place to party and find a bullshyt major to pursue as a side gig. One of the problem is because it's not their money or they dont have to pay for it up front. In smaller countries your parents have to come up with the money up front so you bet ya ass they aint gonna let you fukk up. I've seen grown ass 22 years olds get beat the fukk down on a campus for fukking around in schools after their parents sold inherited land to put them in college. My cousin being one o them.

Too many clown out here afraid of doing some Math. Afraid of STEM programs. All of them majoring in "business administration" and "psychology" or related bullshyt. It's sad because a lot of them actually do pur their heart and souls into these majors and never see the fruits of their labor. Others just take them because they are easy majors and get mad when they cant find decent jobs in their major's field

A good job in STEM isnt worth your humanity and peace of mind. Some legit go insane and have to take meds just to operate in them jobs.

Nah, I ain't one of them inhumane people that scream STEM while the income gap widens and turning America into a 3rd world country. Basic Income has to come through to end the cannibalistic nature of the dying job market thanks to automation
