In the Silver Lining
The College Station stopped was already deemed as not feasible at this time. Based on the meeting I went to in Dallas, they think they can make a profit quickly just Houston to Dallas. At least on the Dallas end, they are working with a developer to build a massive station that links to light rail, street car, commuter rail and buses. The approaches to both cities should be super easy. Thankfully they sidestepped the regional planners that were wanting the station elsewhere to make it easier to get to Arlington and Fort Worth. The regional council will have to figure that part out later.

Yeah, I've been paying attention to the progress of this too. Whether a stop near College Station is built right away on the first construction is debatable, but it absolutely is on deck for a tranfer stop connection to Austin and San Antonio

:dahell: how high speed are you talking

i don't want to be on one of your trains when something fukks up :whoa:

The company wanting to build the Texas line has an almost perfect record. Like their only blemish is minor injuries after decades of service.

If it gets off the ground, it would be six years from now before it is completed, if there are no construction delays.
As far as I know, hurricanes in the Gulf could cause construction set backs near Houston.

Japan has tons of bad weather and bad earthquakes, still they have a great construction and accident record. If you're going to have someone do this project, these are the people.

Houston to Dallas in 1 hr 45 mins?

Southwest airlines would take a MASSIVE hit. :heh:
Now that Wright is lifted, they are concentrating on longer haul routes. Hobby is concentrating more on the carribean. So they have already taken flights from Dallas-Houston.

Houston people will say Houston. I do business in both. They really aren't that much different. both have most of the modern amenities any big city has

Houston is a little more diverse( a little more blacks and hispanics and Pakis), but they aren't that different
Houston will have more cajun style food
Houston will have more oil, gas, chemical and med jobs
Houston is more humid, close to beach.
Houston has more of a local rap scene

Dallas is a little more urban in the inner city
Dallas has better bbq(southern and Texas style)
Dallas has more job opportunity overall, very diverse economy
Dallas is more of a sports city.
Dallas is dry compared to Houston, but a little hotter.
Dallas is more touristy at this point because it has Six Flags and basically two of everything because of Fort Worth

You really would find both similar. Most of what people are bragging about one or the other is negligible. If I had to move to Houston tomorrow I've stayed there enough that I don't think my life would be much different.
