I just finished Jigoro Kano's "mind over muscle".

Its a book based on the writings of the refiner of ju jitsu which turned into judo.

Its a good informative book, it gives you some good principles to take with you like:

Maximum efficiency, minimum energy.
Mutual prosperity-You should prosper while others prosper as well.
Being selfless.
"Jukuryu Danko" meaning "decisive action after careful consideration"

And
"Tomaru tokoro o shire" which means "know when to stop".

The idea of this book is to teach judo as a way of life, living modestly so that way you can spend time perfecting yourself, but only perfecting yourself is meaningful if you contribute to society and its wellbeing.

Its not a bad book, but takes patience.

Next I'll start to work on reading Carl Jung's" Lecture on Psychoanalysis" which he delivers at a university in Tavistock London

I'm always checking out books primarily by black authors. I believe having a healthy black perspective keeps you grounded but more importantly alert.

Just off the top a few reads I finished lately

Pimp Iceberg
Man child in the promise land
The miseducation of the negro Dubois
Native son Wright
Black boy Wright
Soledad brothers
An ordinary man Paul R. ( Hotel Rwanda story)
Kaffir Boy
Black like me Griffin
Autobiography of Fredrick Douglas (excellent)
Soul on Ice

Just of the top

Y'all need to read Wretched of the Earth more so than BSWM--it has a real revolutionary bent to it, while BSWM is merely reconciling one's blackness in a white society. Both are worth reading though, along with A Dying Colonialism. I'm finishing up a thesis on Fanon so it would be cool if there were more people on here up on his work.

Soledad Brother and Blood in my Eye, especially, are what we should be reading and discussing. George Jackson is the greatest organic black intellectual, and he's easy to read and crystal clear.

Chester Himes is my favorite fiction writer, and his novels are super political as well. My thesis is on Himes and Fanon actually, it's very interesting to read them together
