Clockers, Malcom X, Do The Right Thing, Mo Better Blues, Crooklyn, He Got Game, Inside Man are all great films.
I would add 25th Hour, still the best post 9/11 NYC movie to date.

Add BlacKkansman to that list homey…. Cats in here really on some off brand shyt saying Spke only got 3 quality joints under his belt and trying to put Coogler over him is some of the zestiest new age negro shyt I’ve seen lately…Great?Clockers, Malcom X, Do The Right Thing, Mo Better Blues, Crooklyn, He Got Game, Inside Man are all great films.
Malcolm X is certified top 10 film all time which is a tremendous accomplishment but the rest range from good to ok. He Got Game is not a great film by any stretch. Denzel is great but Ray Allen and the overall story is ass.

Either way most of these movies are 30 years old or more. The premises of his films like miracle of St. Anna and the Vietnam movie write themselves but he still comes up short.
I argue with my pops on this who watches all his stuff religiously but it just don’t hit for me. Even Do The Right Thing feels quaint in the Trump era.
Tho his civil war pseudo-documentary was great.
This deserves a neg.Thank you Spike for your contributions but at this point Tyler Perry makes better films.
This deserves a neg.
Spike has made some clunkers in his career (Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus, Red Hook Summer) but Spike has never reached the low levels of "Straw"
That was an extreme blasphemous take.
When I saw sneak peeks and the trailer, I was thrown off because it looked too clean. Particularly, the cinematographer, Matthew Libatique is a big dawg and he shot a lot of SL’s early 2000 stuff but he has worked on larger scoped films and this 1 looked like regression.I think Spike has a very antiquated view of his audience and film in general. That’s why films like Black Klansman worked so well. The weird pacing , them civil war ass drums and horns blaring out of nowhere, all the Boston sports shyt, these things worked in the 80s and 90s for him , but the Black audience has kind of changed and he hasn’t. Even the cinematography doesn’t feel dynamic. This should have been shot like Uncut Gems. Spike has always been more about the message than the style , color grading , new film tech , lenses, etc., and it shows. Ernest dikkerson was his secret weapon, and you can tell by how he shot some of Crooklyn without him.Spike at his best is goat tier, but when it’s bad, that shyt is bad. ASAP Rocky was basically a little fetus variant getting ran down by a 70-year-old breh.![]()
I ran to this site after this video showed up on my youtube timeline. Seems that alot of gen Z'ers are hating on this movie. (haven't seen it yet)
