** Nas, “illmatic,” Columbia. In an obvious attempt to wrestle hip-hop away from the West, East Coast critics have been gushing over Long Island’s Nas as if he were rap’s second coming. Don’t believe the hype. While “The World Is Yours” is one of the year’s smartest, silkiest numbers and his delivery is equally smooth, too much of the album is mired with tired attitudes and posturing.

Nas wasn't saying anything that wasn't being said on many other dope early 90s hip-hop lp's

It was how dope the production and how dope the lyrics were that set it apart not the content

And to be fair QB is in long island city either she ment that or it was an honest mistake

Content wise OC's "word life" is a much better album than illmatic

I know Illmatic didn’t connect with Detroit not one bit. Now Biggie on the other hand was voted artist and song of the year (juicy) by my middle school news show. We thought Illmatic was boring keeping it real. The year 2000 is when I finally was able to appreciate the album, but it was not the same as experiencing when it was released
