NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Nas' life and career were fine. Did Ill movemajor units, no, but he was still one of the hottest acts in the industry and everyone wanted piece of the action. It's not like Colombia were going to drop dude. Did he make less cash off Ill than he should of, of course, but making out that he had to go commercial or it was over is
:what: nikka Nas said out his own mouth he was having a hard time around that time. Jungle refer's to that shyt as a dark time frame. Nas also said he wouldve been finished if he didnt make IWW. U have no idea what u talkin bout.

I told you I agree with you on that from earlier.

But from my perspective only (which I care about I don't speak on others' behaves), the issue with IWW was not the supposed 'wave' Nas was riding. I could care less....in fact as you said it was better for him in terms of commercial success. The issue is it isn't as great an album as some others in that lane of music (namely OB4CL) and therefore it gets overshadowed in that regard. Since the album has weaknesses and Illmatic doesn't really have one, I don't see how you can compare the two, other than by assessing the lyricism which is extremely subjective.

What are these supposed weaknesses? Like @spliz said most ya'll IWW detractors on here are just parroting sh!t ya'll been reading on the internet or paper media for years. IWW probably has only one track that generally gets hate on irl. And IWW doesn't get overshadowed in the pantheon of great 90's Hip Hop albums. Where are you from again? You the same non-Black that was calling Black people monkeys when you got upset over some sh!t a Black poster said to you, so I put little credence in anything you say anymore.

:what: If this ain't one of the most bullshyt statements. u need to gtfoh wit that bs fam. lol. U forgot about Westside Connection and all that shyt? In fact Common's The bytch In Yoo wouldn't have been as effective if what u sayin is true.

All he was doing was pledging allegiance to the West Coast and took issue with major NY publications and other sources giving them no respect.

But he has a point about early Cube. Dude didn't gaf and compromise on anything. "I'm platinum bytch and I didn't have to sell out". He was the most feared person in the industry, saying whatever he wanted to whoever he wanted and his material was genuine 5 mic worthy.

It has a track or two that can be removed from the track list. I don't think it's as cohesive as it could be, but the standalone songs are, for the most part, excellent.

And yes it does get overshadowed in terms of quality the only saving grace is Nas' name is behind the project.

And nope I did not call black people monkeys you didn't read the argument or you're going for another shock value generalisation. I was called a monkey by ONE user and I indirectly compared monkey species and said I'd rather be one than another. It was a very bad comment and I deserved to get boxed but don't make it seem I'm out here calling black people monkeys.

Oh and all because of that statement suddenly you don't take my HIP HOP opinion series anymore? Kinda illogical way of thinking.

I'm born in the UK and Middle East originally.

I refuse to take anyone serious who criticizes Nas for switchin it up and then turn around and praise Cube talkin bout he didn't switch it up. Cube is one of my GOAT's and was one of the most switcheroo ass rappers out there.

Well I'm not criticising Nas for switching it up, so idk why you're telling me this.

Album has ONE track that I can objectively state I've heard people sh!t on off the internet. ONE.

It never gets overshadowed. Whether it's warranted, IWW and, moreso, Cuban Linx are often credited with ushering in the mafioso rap that was highly prevalent in the mid 90's. And you're not even in America and not fully knowledgeable of American Hip Hop and that's why you're parroting things you've read on the internet for years. Being here and actually being a part of the culture...and fully immersed in it...is totally different than reading about it and listening to it from afar. The same reason that @SirBiatch usually doesn't know what the fukk he's talking about when he's talking about Hip Hop.

And yea...you were calling Black people monkey cause someone upset you. Don't try to twist it. It's the reason you got the boot from TPC and also the reason I don't fukk wit you.

That's fair about not being immersed in it but I have family who were and still are living in America who were privy to what was happening back then. IWW getting credit? For what? Doe or Die, Cuban Linx and 4,5,6 came out a year earlier.

No I said I'd rather be a sand monkey than gorilla. Let's keep it real that was the statement I made when IronChin called me a sand monkey. Nothing more nothing less. Of course my implicit statement was ill advised as is and I regret saying it and I've moved on and so has everyone else. If you haven't and you don't like me, don't quote me bro. It'll make your life much easier to not deal with someone you don't like.

Ilmatic>>>>>>>>>>>>"AAAAAARGHHHH WHAT UP NAS"

Nah but seriously I love both but Illmatic just holds a special place in my mind but I vividly remember when IWW dropped and people were not feeling it. I personally loved it and just thought it wasn't as good as Illmatic. Still amazing but Cuban Link and IWW were the premier albums during that time and the definition of mafioso flagship albums.

You seem to be arguing against yourself here. that he was in such a "dark place" that he had to make a commercial album to "save his life and career" :mindblown:
But then saying IWW was still better despite the desperate moves?

It's either his career/life was fine and put he put out an uncompromised work OR he was on the ropes and made a commercial album to save the day. Which is it? :coffee:

You having family here in the US doesn't mean sh!t. You are studying US Hip Hop culture from thouands of miles away and telling American people what Americans actually thought of American albums on American streets. Like I said, whether it's warranted or not, IWW is generally looked at waaaaaaaaay before Doe or Die or 4, 5, 6 in ushering in the mafioso heavy era of mid 90's East Coast rap.

And you can try to rationalize it all you want...you let a troll bring out those racist views you harbor.

And I usually don't quote you, or even really participate in your threads, but you saying some silly sh!t in here and I had to chime in. You letting the Nas hater in you shine.
