What’s the best website (the source-esque) for this sort of thing?

I never even know when things are coming out, let alone find out about new up and coming artist.

The downfall of the source was shyt for hip hop, if they would’ve pivoted to a credible website, it would’ve been better for everyone.
I personally don’t use any websites. I basically do “digital digging” and not be afraid to give random music a try. If there is an artist I like I may turn on their radio on Spotify and see what pops up or click on the people also like tab and listen to those artists. If someone features on a song with an artist I like then I’ll check him out and so on down the rabbit hole. I spend a lot of time on YouTube as well, so any random suggestions I’ll atleast give it a listen or if I’m listening to a podcast and someone is mentioned I’ll check them out. Doing it that way it’s rare an artist comes up and I haven’t atleast heard of them.

I'm probably enjoying it as much as any other point in my life. I still got all the trash albums that came out in the 90's/00's

I think we have more of a Coli problem than a hip hop problem. This forum has been full of very weird behavior from the same 7-10 accounts who constantly post about Kendrick and Drake nonstop. Everyone here knows I'm a Kdot stan, I am NOT shytting on him. I'm talking about these weirdos, most of whom have negative rep. We're almost at the halfway point of the year and damn near every day on the Booth has revolved around nonstop Kendrick threads/comments on the front page. Not even NEWS or noteworthy shyt, either. Just pure engagement farming and spam posts. Or if it's news it's constantly repetitive. We needed 3+ threads about how much a concert date grossed? What are we doing...

In terms of rap...Boldy been dropping, billy woods dropped, etc.

There's just no centralized narrative. It's doing as well as you think whatever pocket/niche you follow is doing

Culturally, the influence is completely disconnected from the music and lives through social media personas, slang and memes. Its saturated to the extreme where it's everywhere and nowhere

The music literally does not matter and hasn't for a long time. Every so often there's a viral song and it gets pillaged until nothing remains, rinse and repeat

I have enough artists that I check for who regularly drop, so I'm enjoying it at this stage of life - but yeah, it's dead, or some walking dead type shyt in 2025

You have to go out and look for yourself now. With the way music is curated, it allows for even more garbage to get hot.

I ain't gone lie though. It's not easy to find artist yourself. Especially with so many other things in life taking up our time nowadays.
Nothing is getting hot these days, that’s the problem. I actually think streaming and algorithms have curated new rappers out of the mainstream

it’s damn near impossible for new rappers to breakthrough. The last one was boss man dlow

We need a Kendrick drake mega thread atp, it’s been a year

but rap is struggling in the mainstream. I partly think it’s the way music is consumed(check my post above This) and I think young White people have moved on from rap in the mid 20s.

I could go one about this but all those articles about how long songs are staying on the charts these days is Because the algorithm is a self fulfilling prophecy

Kanye, Drake, and Travis Scott all made music by hogging up resources and all three are dead commercially. That's what we're feeling right now. All the rappers and producers that would have been cultivating their fanbases and furthering their craft instead got more money selling stuff up the river instead of down.

All the investment that came into a Kanye, Drake or Travis project, all the people flown out, all the studio time paid for etc is all on hold right now because those three can't turn those expenses into profits anymore.

The industry waiting for someone new to go viral and be the new wave, but the problem now being all this other music feels so cheap (it is) and uninspired it cannot stack up to what the big budget music was doing. The slide is real.

And of course it has to mention - all the good Gen Z rappers got killed :why:

The rap industry is in the bed it made for itself.
Amazing point, and chalk it up to capitalism. All those resources and ideas pumped into the same 2-3 artists at the top, so they can eat for 15-20 years while everyone else fights for scraps at the bottom.

Then we realize that we hate those artists (for reasons we knew all along) so we cannibalize them, and are left with bones, carcasses and no star power to be found lol

This was better than that trash posted on the first page for sure.
These YN spit so many crazy bars I honestly can't find it in me to complain about rap.

I wish they blow up, most likely they won't like that. But just the IV of them, by themselves, make the art form something to be admired. Even with all the trash out there.

If there's a golden statue with an intricate design in the middle of the dumping grounds, don't look at the dumping grounds, just look at the statue and you'll be amazed everyday because everyday you'll find a new part of the design that will leave you marveled.

:wow:

It’s defintely a hip hop problem, and if it weren’t for Kendrick 2024/2025 would have been just as bad. Kendrick is gonna go back inside eventually then what? Hip Hop has never been just a space for the underground acts there has to be a mainstream balance
