Larry June is the only "mainstream" modern dude I fukk wit besides Kendrick, and even he's not really mainstream like that.. I also like glorilla's music..

the juice isn't worth the squeeze anymore.. why grind to make pennies off the millions these big corporations make off your shyt, and then perform in front of wack crowds that want to film everything on their phones instead of enjoying your shyt in the moment..? gotta take hip-hop's power back from the c-suite algorithm ghouls pushing wack drake songs and put that power back to the streets, parties, and word of mouth roots that made hip-hop blow up in the first place..

Good points

I'm willing to bet everything you're looking for in Hip Hop can be found on the local level. Maybe that's the way it's going to trend. Back to rapping about your local hood. That's how Kendrick blew up. Wu Tang as well. All this hyper capitalism shyt is stretched beyond the reaches of a normal motherfukker. We can't all afford a Royce...

Off top :flabbynsick:

I'm more hype to hear old shyt(90s to 2010s) that I missed. Unreleased shyt remixes etc.

Most new music sounds so different than what I grew up on I can't make sense of most of it.

The beats the lyrics the rapping voices and tones don't sound good to my ear.

Easier to find new r&b that I like than hip-hop.

Yeah Coli nikkas getting old. I realized the older I get the more I grow out of hip hop. I don't be wanting to hear most of that shyt.
Same.

I was listening to this in 2022 and that’s when it hit me that I’m growing out of it

I respect your musical tastes cuz we all like what we like, but this song doesn't separate this artist from everything else.
Understood. I was just posting some shyt I chill and ride to. I'm too old to be looking for the next big thing in hip-hop. This isn't directed at you but I said this a while ago. I have enough quality music in my lifetime to not really care if quality hip-hop drops again from majors (don't know why anyone would expect there to be nowadays) . People had enough of the shady business practices of the majors and would rather open their phones and build their own following. Hell content creators with a nice size following make more than most rappers on major labels.

The lack of A&Rs to find authentic acts to push into the mainstream is killing hip hop.

This is it right here.

As someone who worked as an A&R forever, I can speak to how important it is/was, at the labels. There's no more development for artists because labels don’t want to pay for it anymore. So they're just putting people out, knowing they'll fail eventually, but they'll just replace them with another artist in two seconds. It's the new model because the money isn't coming in the way it used to.
