Hispanic voters were supposed to be the DNC party’s future. It’s not working out that way.

Let me add it's not just Cubans, Colombians in Broward (plenty west broward) and other nationalities voted for trump and are just republican
:leon: News to me. Colombians in dade are mostly democrat and hate trump. Only other nationality that I’ve heard of voting for trump in big numbers is Venezuelans. All other nationalities Dominicans, Puerto Rican’s, Nicaraguans, Panamanians vote Dem.

Shut up Uncle Juan. You were crying on this very board about Italians not accepting you despite your dad being Italian.

It's a good thing that most Latinos have some sort of pride and don't beg for the acceptance of a party that is openly hostile against them.

This is what liberal think tanks and media get for selling blacks and Hispanics as some type tag team community with equal beliefs and similar problems.

Hispanics = Catholic, patriarchy, white identity leaning and conservative.

Also people saying that Cubans are the only Latino group that vote republican are not looking at the numbers.

Latinos have consistently voted republican at 35-29% since the Nixon administration.

All of the 35 -29% can NOT mathematical be all Cubans. That's millions of upon millions of people. The Cuban population is not large enough to make up 30% of the entire Latino American community.

It's not possible.

In the census in 2000 there were 1,241,685 Cuban Americans, and in the 2010 census there were 1,785,547 (both native and foreign born), and represented 3.5% of all Hispanics, and 0.58% of the US population. 983,147 were born abroad in Cuba, 628,331 were U.S born and of the 1.6 million, 415,212 were not U.S citizens.[26] In the 2013 ACS, there were 2,013,155 Cuban Americans. The 2010 US Census shows that 85% report of Cubans that immigrated to the USA from Cuba identify as being white.[27] The most recent 2012 Cuban census has the island population at 64.12% white, 26.62% mulatto, 9.26% black, and 0.1% Asian.

They are 0.58% of the US population. Really People. Think

Cubans are not the only Hispanics who vote for Republicans. That is not true at all. A lot of Hispanics are very conservative and very elitist.
They are only 0.58% of the US population and 4 % of the Latino population in 2010. They can't move 10% of the Latino vote let only 30%.

Puerto Rican's are the second largest Hispanic group behind Mexicans at number one.

Black people and liberals are hell bent on selling the myth that Latinos don't vote Republican and if they do they are all Cubans.

yes, cubans tend to vote more GOP...but it's just not true to say that they're the only hispanic/latino group that votes that way.

why do you think the GOP runs Texas....they get HUGE percentages among hispanics and most are originally from mexico...and the GOP candidate usually gets something like 30% of hispanic votes every presidential election. there arent enough cubans in the US to do this.
I just saw this comment after I posted. I completely agree.

If the GOP would ease up just a hair on immigration rhetoric (they could even continue the policies) they'd have most of the Latino vote locked down. Most Latinos despise illegal immigration as well, if for no other reason than they had to take the time and money to come here legally and hate to see people who did not prosper in any shape or form. As long as the GOP continues to attack immigrants as a monolith, particularly the home countries, many Latinos will vote Dem or not at all despite leaning towards the right on a number of issues.

Nah they just look down on newcomers. They even have a word for them, “paisa”, which refers to those who were born in Mexico and just got here. The vast majority of the ones then have a parent or grandparent that came here illegally.

Can someone explain to me what the point of this thread is?

If I had only read the comments, I would think that Hispanics are voting 90% Republican. But the article in the OP said that only 27-29% of Hispanics are voting Republican. And that number would be even lower if there wasn't such poor turnout among young Latinos. I swear that @Robbie3000 was damn near the only commenter who noticed that.

Hell, what percentage of Black men voted for Trump, like 12% or 15% or something? 29% is closer to 15% than to 50%.

Even when a Latino Republican is running against a White Democrat, Latinos prefer the Democrat. In Texas right now, polls show Latinos favoring O'Rouke 62% to 35%. And some of ya'all actually wanna claim that Texas Latinos are majority conservative?

The huge majority of Hispanics are voting Democratic. And that turned into a Hispanic-bashing thread because...?

Also, people tried to claim that the Florida Latino vote is conservative. But that's not true outside of Cubans, and even Cubans are damn near split.

FT_16.11.15_CubanVoters.png

So only 54% of Cubans in Florida voted for Trump, and only 26% of non-Cuban Latinos in Florida voted for Trump. That means for all Latinos, they were 35% for Trump and 62% for Clinton. That's damn near 2-to-1. There might be some conservative pockets, like "rich Columbians" or whatever. But Latinos overall are a pretty strong Democratic voting base. They just don't turn out in very high numbers.
