Of course I rather hear albums that I deem classic, Not nerds on a hiphop board
But, this isn't about that. Its about how some people careers aren't looked at favorable among yall because they dont have a catolog full of classic albums
Name some artist that are eating nice that don't have hit records but have what the majority would consider classic albums.
Look at all the dudes at rock the bells the last few years they were touring and performing whole classic albums on stage. When u have quality catalogues u can eat indefinitely. Hits get played out quick. 90s nikkas still touring worldwide when acts from early 2k who had monster hits are done for.
Yeah but many of those classic albums consisted of hits as well...
If you're a CONSISTENT hit-making artist, you are likely to have a better career. Not somebody who swung thru and scored one or two... but if you had widely-loved and acknowledged songs, they're more likely to be remembered than the entire album. Even someone like a KRS, sure he has some classic albums, but I'd say most people remember his hits more than his album cuts. People wanna see him perform 'The Bridge Is Over', 'Sound of Da Police', 'Love's Gonna Getcha', shyt like that, which in their own right were hits... I don't think anybody's buyin' a ticket to see him do 'Elementary' or 'Higher Level'. Rakim, same thing- he can perform 'Eric B Is President' and 'Paid In Full' forever... he probably can't perform 'As The Rhyme Goes On' or 'Run 4 Cover' that much. Hits (or even notable singles for that matter) go much further than entire albums do, unless those albums are ones like a Doggystyle or Ready To Die where everybody knows and loves damn near every song on it anyway.
i'm pretty sure KRS did Higher Level when i saw him a few months ago. the crowd loved it. people going to a KRS One concert/gig are going because they know his shyt and they want to hear it. now if he's performing at a Rock The Bells joint he would stick to the Bridge Is Over type songs.Yeah but many of those classic albums consisted of hits as well...
