Not really wrong tho, Tyga couldnt make a hit without a hit like beat. ANY one could do what he did, Forget about him dropping a classic album

The only thing that makes a hit record >>>> a classic album is that a hit record can be backed up with facts. Whether or not an album is classic is an opinion. Other than making a solid argument based on the quality, impact, influence etc., it's basically going by the ratings from critics.

From a strictly artistic perspective, I'd rather have fans, critics, and peers hail my album a classic than have a hit record though.

Of course I rather hear albums that I deem classic, Not nerds on a hiphop board

But, this isn't about that. Its about how some people careers aren't looked at favorable among yall because they dont have a catolog full of classic albums

Name some artist that are eating nice that don't have hit records but have what the majority would consider classic albums.

Look at all the dudes at rock the bells the last few years they were touring and performing whole classic albums on stage. When u have quality catalogues u can eat indefinitely. Hits get played out quick. 90s nikkas still touring worldwide when acts from early 2k who had monster hits are done for.

With a classic album you can probably make money off of touring for a long time like Wu, PE, Rakim, Nas, KRS etc etc etc., build a fanbase and stuff.

With a hit record...you could get short term big money thats big...but keep in mind you've used an example of a dude who's signed to a label that's quick through a lot of artists' freedom in the bushes. That house purchase is nice right now, lets see what happens later.

Yeah but many of those classic albums consisted of hits as well...

If you're a CONSISTENT hit-making artist, you are likely to have a better career. Not somebody who swung thru and scored one or two... but if you had widely-loved and acknowledged songs, they're more likely to be remembered than the entire album. Even someone like a KRS, sure he has some classic albums, but I'd say most people remember his hits more than his album cuts. People wanna see him perform 'The Bridge Is Over', 'Sound of Da Police', 'Love's Gonna Getcha', shyt like that, which in their own right were hits... I don't think anybody's buyin' a ticket to see him do 'Elementary' or 'Higher Level'. Rakim, same thing- he can perform 'Eric B Is President' and 'Paid In Full' forever... he probably can't perform 'As The Rhyme Goes On' or 'Run 4 Cover' that much. Hits (or even notable singles for that matter) go much further than entire albums do, unless those albums are ones like a Doggystyle or Ready To Die where everybody knows and loves damn near every song on it anyway.

Those classic albums got hits because the playlists were more diverse then. DJ used to break records not just play set lists. U can't have hit without heavy rotation on air on in the clubs... also back then the hits were not just club music or formulaic it was anything that popped off.

i'm pretty sure KRS did Higher Level when i saw him a few months ago. the crowd loved it. people going to a KRS One concert/gig are going because they know his shyt and they want to hear it. now if he's performing at a Rock The Bells joint he would stick to the Bridge Is Over type songs.

Careful, TS will accuse everyone of whining and crying about how much music sucks these days and force Drake tracks on all of us.

Topic is terrible, like most said, give me something classic that will always be around, like Tyga will last and he most likely won't have that house in the next 5-10 years. And you act like A hit will last for someone's entire lifetime, the chances of someone having a long career of hits in music as a whole is slim, let alone in one genre of music.

do you know why theyre out of print? oh, and theyve been out of print more than once.

I just think they didn't think the album was going to do that good and didn't print enough. Been trying to find this album for years. I missed it last time they came back :to:

A hit record is possibly one good song (most likely zero good songs)

A classic album is about 10-15 good songs

I really don't care what's better at generating money if I'm not the one receiving it

I mean..it depends on who's perspective it is.

If you cool with having them dance/rap/r&b tracks then go head and get your money..but dont get mad if people call you a soft chump or a sell out.

If you want to release good music, music from the heart..thought provoking lyrics, creative art..its probably a little harder to make those millions.

People just wanna sing along to simple songs, "have swag", etc.. These niqqas dont wanna hear metaphors, stories and great lyricism in the club:jawalrus:

Simplicity works best.. thats why all these labels are quick to sign a tyga or a chief keef instead of skyzoo and loaded lux.
