I honestly didn't even know it was an issue until Michael B Jordan had to write that long ass apology for it. I was literally like "dude is apologizing for using the term FEMALE!?!!?!!:mindblown:"

yeah that shyt was crazy, thats when i knew the internet ruined a lot of people minds.. mindless opinions just filtering through the inter web causing commotion

The Problem With Calling Women 'Females'

one of the best reasons and I've never given it much thought until my sister @CinnaSlim made this point.

1. Because the words "female" and "woman" mean different things.
"Female" is a scientific term that refers to the sex of a species that is capable of producing children. The term "woman" refers specifically to human beings, while "female" could refer to any species.
See @Matt504 's post above.
it still doesn't make sense to me as we are still using male when we refer to men

SO ? how does this warrant the outrage ... if i called a woman a female i would hope she was intelligent enough to know i wasnt referring her to any species but human.. like i said just a reason for fake outrage on something that should never even be an issue

Black people get offended when a white person calls them nikka yet they call each other nikkas.
That's because white people used to call us ******s and whipped us across the spine with lashes. It's not something as light hearted and meaningless as name calling.

Its dehumanizing.
@RaneDolzNikeMonster "bytches" has long since been a derogatory term toward women that they've since reclaimed. Its still derogatory if used by a man.
@God's Gift. "nikkas" has long since been a derogatory term toward Black people in general that we've since reclaimed. Its still derogatory if used by a person who is not Black.
I almost never hear "female" used as a casual reference to a woman outside of the Black community, and it isn't a term to be reclaimed, its a biological term that should stay that way. It sounds odd, and forced anyway.

if you don't have a problem with being referred to as a male, that's absolutely fine.

your argument is, "I don't have a problem being called a male, I don't get why they have a problem being called a female"

that's a very self centered view of things.

Females is reductive and arguably offensive because it strips humanity from a gender... like @Matt504 said a female could be animal or vegetable, a woman can only be human.

The real kicker is whether it's routinely used in a positive way - "These females..." is pretty much guaranteed to have a negative comment after it. Men saying it is hardly like white people using the n-bomb, but it's on the same road.

It's rare that a group of men will be referred to as "These males...", more likely "These men", "These guys" etc which shines a light on the double-standard.

I, for one, have NO problem referring to a woman as 'woman' instead of 'female' :sas1:

I wonder what her issue could possibly be with 'woman'......after all, it clearly refers to a female human being.....:sas2:

Ok this is understandable.

It's highly semantic, and I doubt this is peoples intention when using the word.

But at least theres sound logic behind it. I never understood why women saw it as offensive.

Now lets see if those same women go after people calling men "males'

Using the word female to refer to a person is not dehumanizing as humans can be female. Using the word bytch is because human beings are not dogs.
bytch was a word originally coined for a female dog in heat. It has been used in a multitude of ways. One way as to describe an emasculated or weak male and another to describe an abrasive female. It was never a word to be reclaimed or claimed being that men and women of all races still use it loosely and in a multitude of ways non-exclusive to just describing females.
