Stop trying to swerve the convo into that lane and asking me to prove some shyt for the record books. It aint up to me to try and drop knowledge about the era at the time I'm referring to (95-02). nikkas on here know I been reppin my city since .and know what I'm saying is fact. The whole West/South relationship is a whole nutha convo to be had. I'll just say that we did in fact get influenced from the West and borrowed a lot of their production style earlier on (Ant Banks was Screw favorite artist) but we pretty much came from the same background when it comes to the car culture, weather, weed, beaches, BBQs, music, and women. I mean shyt I have a gang of cousins from the West and South it's only natural that nikkas in music did the same thing back then and gravitated towards each others music but don't make it seem like we didnt have our own identity even in the early 90s especially in Houston (Gangsta Nip, SPC, Street Military, Odd Squad, K-Rino, 20-2 Life, Big Mello. I'm not even gonna get into the early UGK, Scarface, Big Mike, shyt that sounded nothing like West Coast music). The South didnt have the commercial appeal that the West had but every region had its own distinct sound and to say that we were considered part of The West is inaccurate. We were shunned by the industry just like the West and put into the same pool and even collaborated with one another. The West always seemed bothered by it but nikkas in The South could care less. We always made our money and never expected recognition from major publications or TV. Southwest Wholesale kept the South and West making money without majors. Like I said earlier in this thread the industry always came to to Southern artist trying to make deals b/c of the money we made without em for years.

They won the award but they won it in 2002/03. Get Ya Mind Correct dropped in 2002

You were just off with the years. CCC didn't form until 2001. Cham and Paul didn't join Swishahouse until 1999/2000

If we gonna keep it a buck the Geto Boys were the first act from the South that got big and earned respect. UGK (tho not quite from Houston) didn't get as big as the Geto Boys were just as influential. Everything else we heard from the South at the time was that bass music

True to a degree but Get Boys stuff never was a threat to NYC or West Coast HipHop. The first real threats to NY's reign since West Coast fell off after the Deathrow era was Florida and New Orleans but ATL was the one that really sealed the deal to the point NY started jacking their wave.

Okay well I made a mistake on the dating of ccc.
I admit that since you came with a title and that does match up.
With get yo mind correct which you did on the release date.
Anything past that and the segregation ideal of the south being independently recognized as its own region is accurate and I know that to be real.
