North Carolina Excellence re-invades Houston.... .... .......... I don't go to Shipley's often and there is one right down the street, though I can understand the appeal.....but I can't wait to get my hands on some warm Original Glaze doughnuts.....

After a nine-year hiatus, the reopening of Houston's first Krispy Kreme store on Tuesday has people lining up late into the night.
Cars stretched for several blocks around the new shop located at 8611 Westheimer at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Die-hard doughnut fans waited in long queues outside the store.
Fans first started staking out spots in line around 8 a.m. Monday, said a woman who works at a nearby business. The store opened at 6 a.m. Tuesday, in a spot that formerly housed an Arby's restaurant. A second shop is scheduled to open Nov. 17 at 5603 Texas 6 North.
According to the company's website, the first person in line will receive a dozen free "original glazed" donuts once a week for a year, and the next 99 people will get a dozen free glazed each month for a year.
Radio personality Dinah Powers, co-host of the morning Rod Ryan Show on 94.5 The Buzz, tweeted that she would be tasting the first doughnut once the store opens.
Other Krispy Kreme stores are planned for the South 610 Loop near Main Street and Spencer Highway in Pasadena, the company said.

And then there were two.
After months of campaigning, the race for Houston mayor will come down to a runoff between Sylvester Turner and Bill King.
Turner had 32 percent of the vote to King's 25 percent with 93 percent of the precincts counted.
It's been six years since Houston has had a new mayor. Mayor Annise Parker has served the maximum number of terms permitted by city code so she cannot run for re-election.
Turner's lead in the race did not come as a surprise, as many political experts pegged him as the front runner. King is expected to win a good chunk of the conservative voters, but there are many candidates who have name recognition, including former Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia, who stepped down from as sheriff to run for mayor. Garcia finished third with 16 percent of the vote. The remaining 27 percent of the vote was scattered among 10 other candidates.

I think that Checkers just opened earlier this year. Random spot, wonder if its going to survive there.

Hope so....next door to a Wendy's so I'm sure people will get curious and go there to check it out. So happy I don't have to drive to Beaumont to get some Checkers if I want it...

UT Austin trying to Deebo the higher education game in Houston. Funny they made this announcement last week during UH's homecoming. I read another article where they were saying UH backers are worried about those academic research dollars that come into Houston becoming scarcer cause of this. I assume TSU and Rice feeling the same way like
