He's had good at-bats today.

Need to flip Astros and the Rangers for this to make any sense

Sounds FrenchThat's a hell of a last name![]()

Those are all great, but nothing touches enter sandman for Mariano. It was absolutely perfect for him given his nickname and the fact that the greatest closer ironically walked out to the perfect song to open a concert with (especially in the early 90’s when the album released) while his demeanor was always the total opposite of the energy of the track.
The whammy bar effect at 8 seconds
The drums kicking in at 16 seconds
The distortion on lead and rhythm guitar kicking in at 24 seconds mixed with the cymbal crashes at 24 & 30 seconds
The gradual build of tension until the 55 second mark when the main riff finally hits as Rivera would reach the mound

It's really impressive that everyone in baseball knew that Mariano Rivera was going to throw a cutter...and almost nothing else....for 18 years....and still people struggled to make good contact on it.Imagine having to lead off the 9th with all this happening around you![]()

Well, to be fair, neither the catcher nor Mariano said he knew where the ball would end up (within the zone) so it’s a really hard pitch to hit. It tailed so much I think he still owns the record for broken bats since not many hitters could bring their hands up and in enough to get solid contact. It's really impressive that everyone in baseball knew that Mariano Rivera was going to throw a cutter...and almost nothing else....for 18 years....and still people struggled to make good contact on it.
Imagine a guy tipping his pitches today....every day...and that guy still having a like a 2.00 ERA

2.21 ERA in 1115 regular season games with 1,283 & 2/3 innings pitched. Across 96 playoff games with 141 innings pitched the ERA was 0.70It's really impressive that everyone in baseball knew that Mariano Rivera was going to throw a cutter...and almost nothing else....for 18 years....and still people struggled to make good contact on it.
