I need someone to leak what offers they were receiving. If teams were offering bullshyt like the Tigers got for Verlander and JD Martinez (that fukking Avila still accepted :snoop: ), then I understand. But if they were getting their pick of multiple top prospects, they are absolute fools, but that's par for the course for their organization.
If Baltimore wanted Ohtani seriously, the Angels would be perfectly within their rights to demand Jackson Holliday.
And if I was the Baltimore GM, I'd strongly consider it.

I'm not sure I understand why the Cubs are batting Chris Morel 7th.
I feel like that kid should be hitting closer to the top.

This popped up on my feed. Easily the most underappreciated star of the last 30 years.

By all accounts, he never used PEDs and he finished with over 600 HRs. He had an OPS over 1.000 in Minnesota in his age 39 season.

He'll always be associated with The Tribe but he mashed with the White Sox and Phillies too.

Even when he played, he never got the respect he deserved. Probably because he looked like a softball league player.

I remember when the Tigers lost 119 games.

Oakland is seriously challenging to be worse than that in 2023.

They're currently 28-75 (.272 winning percentage)
Those 43-119 Tigers had a .265 winning percentage. The crazy thing is....3 years later...those Tigers were in the World Series.

:whoa: I’m not trading Holliday for a rental. Orioles have plenty of other prospects

LOL
You have to start at the top and negotiate down, right?

Of course but Holliday been rippin every level he’s been at & is 19 & just drafted a year ago,no way in hell I’m giving that up for a rental.especially with the orioles farm having several top 100 prospects. Dude will be in the majors by next season

Detroit won five of their last six that season too.

Just spitballing here. If the Angels can in fact sign Ohtani and keep him in an Angel uniform, you have to then explore your options with Trout right? They can't continue to pay the both of them with nothing else on the team.

I guess the question is whether Ohtani would make keeping Trout a condition of him re-signing.
Maybe MLB players don't exert as much influence over the roster as athletes in other sports, but if I'm Ohtani and I re-sign with the Angels, only for them to then gut the team and ask me to wait 4 years for the prospects to be ready....that's not going to sit well.

I know this doesn't usually happen in baseball but maybe they could trade Trout and get some actual useful veterans to spread around the roster instead of just prospects.

Here's the thing: You sign Ohtani. Now you're paying him probably minimum $60M a season. Trout has 7 years left on his deal at $37M/per. The Angels aren't one of the top 5 payroll teams in reality. They don't have that kind of revenue. They can't pay two guys $100M/year.

It’s not up to them. That’s up to Trout and he doesn’t wanna leave
