Also, to add to my above post: If the authors were lying, what did they get out of it? They pretty much were going against their own community/society and became outcasts. They were persecuted for hundreds of years by the authorities in-power and most of them were executed. Now, I know people normally lie for sex, money or some combination of both in order to gain some type of power, but what if any 'power' did these authors attain from writing these so-called 'lies'?
