What's funny is WU stans in the booth very rarely even bring up ODB...completely slipped my mind that he was even a member of WU

His name stood on it's own without the WU and he had alot of crossover hit singles that no other member of the WU had (outside of Meth)...infact Meth is more known for his collaborations with RED than he is for being with WU. ODB was more known for his singles with Mariah, Mya etc. by the general rap buying public...so classifying either of their crossover appeal as being a product of the WU alone would be a gross mischaracterization...Meth was the beneficiary of a Mary J stimulus package as was ODB a beneficiary of the Mariah Carey stimulus package...which helped exposed them to a broader audience than the other members.

And i said earlier in the thread that Meth had huge hit singles that everybody pretty much knew...but this wasn't one of them. Reading comprehension folks. And i just plain forgot that ODB was a member of the WU. :pachaha:

And DC still does not and never have rocked with the WU...by the tune of about 99%. Fact still stands. I know my damn city.

Well sir... i'm from the District of Columbia and i cannot recall a single soul that seriously listened to Wu/Meth or owned a tape of theirs when i was coming up...infact, you woulda got straight up laughed at if you listened to the WU where i'm from...i take it you're a cac of some sort? And i said the "following year" meaning the year after. Biggie was bumped HEAVY over here in DC...unlike Meth and most of those WU nikkas he was able to gain a large following outside of the NY market and the cac and :cornballbrother: market.

And pay attention to the question...how big was"Method Man" when it dropped... and all signs point to it being a regional hit...but not really nothing that encapsulated the nation when it dropped..today was my very 1st time seeing that video (and i seen the Mary J joint a gazillion times) Nothing comparable to the shyt that Bone/Eazy, Snoop/Death Row, Face/Geto Boys was dropping at the time.

Funny how i said this months ago...and another DC breh (who actually likes WU) just said damn there the EXACT same thing in a completely unrelated thread. :heh:

Yea I was born in 83 and grew up in NYC... I liked Meth but Ghost and Rae were on another level to me.

I think what killed Meth was he had great, great, great singles (Bring the Pain, Release Yo Delf), but his album wasn't that good. It still had that dusty ass 36 Chambers sound which really only could work once. Rae's album was the best produced album of 95, easily, and Ghost's album had classics + a cohesive theme in a way only Ghost could do it. Those are albums u can still find new things in 20 yrs later.
thought u were a young king
