I could be wrong, but my initial impressions are that Jazz attracted a different kind of White, similar to how modern Basketball attracts the White kid that might not necessarily dig, hockey. When the Macklemore/Kendrick/Grammy controversy set off, I recall an article featuring a White jazz artist dealing with White Guilt over winning an award over a Black jazz musician. Can't remember the key players, but I thought it was interesting for White guilt to be so openly expressed in that time frame. I don't claim to be a jazz or rock historian, but the overt hijacking of Rock seems to have been a bit more blatant than Jazz's hijacking. I could be wrong, and am always appreciative of a history lesson.
