He doesn't have the family tree that Dre does. DOC, Death Row,em, 50 G-Unit, Game are all successful acts that came from under his umbrella.

Quik makes great music, but he was largely a regional act and has no major artist that came out under him.

Yep. Quik had AMG, 2nd II None, Suga Free, and Mausberg. All talented too, but not what Dre was working with. Plus Quik's albums never were completely good to me. No personal classics for me. He's talented though. Love all his Grooves.

Quik got platinum records and gave us Suga Free.

When he got put in industry purgatory with his record label, Suge threw him a life preserver. That just happened to be when Pac came thru so Quik was behind the scenes making a lot of All Eyez on Me sound like it was mixed by a master.

But it was a gift and curse. fukkery at Death Row back then is well known at that time and Quik had beefs of his own to deal with (Eiht and his own damn family). But he was able to eat while at Death Row and work. Dre was being a weirdo and left, Daz got bumped up in the rotation, Pac got shot, Roger Troutman got killed, Suge locked up, so it was time for Quik to go.

By then his label issues got sorted and he was cranking out hits with Suga Free and Mauseberg was up next (until he got killed).

But Quik never stopped being consistent — though one can argue that Battlecat and Fredwreck been doing just as much of not more. Quik has no bad albums and been sticking to the same formula.

There's some nikkas who don't even know Puffy was a producer they just know him as some rich nikka they see on social media

I can sort of understand where OP is coming from... Quik isn't a "celebrated" legend like Jay, Nas, Dre, Pac, Cube, Prodigy of Mobb Deep, etc. So to younger posters it seems like he never "blew up". Maybe its because he doesn't regularly drop music in modern times to keep his name buzzing.
