A platinum album in that era is huge...once again what more do you want lol

True indeed. People forget that it took years and years for records like Illmatic and Reasonable Doubt to go plat. Anybody who old enough to remember the whole 90’s know that the West had the rap game on lock in terms of sales. L.A. was like the ATL of the 90’s. It was so bad that East Coast rappers had to switch they style by taking elements of Cali rap to actually sell. Biggie blew up because his singles were basically G-Funk records (i.e. “Juicy”, “Big Poppa”). NY hardcore rap in the early to mid 90’s was a direct artistic response to Cali gangsta shyt. :birdman:

Quik was huge in Cali. But he never had the machine behind him to the level Dre did. The FBI warning on the NWA album is what really captured white America’s attention with Dre and they never stopped paying attention after that. NWA’s controversy kept them in rebellious white peoples ears. :leostare:

Dre roster was no more talented than Quik roster. If you know Cali rap like that, you know Snoop got his whole style from 415 from Oakland. :snoop: Like blatant style copying. And a Snoop even admitted he based his style off them. It’s just the machine pushed Death Row harder. They made it seem like Dre invented the wheel when he really just popularized the sound and style that was going in Cali at the time. He might have upped the ante, but he didn’t create the wave. :ld:

Similar to Too $hort...

Talks too much about pus*y and a lot of rah-rah shyt on top of primarily being regional...I always fuked with him tho he's in my top 10 of Hip-Hop producers.

His best asset is his production skills.

I usually play some of his shyt during the summer in NYC when I'm trying to vibe to something.

Also, Rhythm-Al-Ism>>>> Safe + Sound.

Hmm. Interesting argument but I agree I think think Rhythm is more consistent.

this is it.

the biggest dre / snoop / 50 cent songs are damn near pop songs. they are catchy and white kids in middle america can follow along and sing the hook.

DJ quik is more for music heads. He has catchy songs but he didn't really pop like that in the South and East Coast. His subject matter is limited and his sound is funk influenced so the boom-bap backpackers don't rock with him too tough either.

Quik has a fanbase in the Newark area.
