Cool, never listened to DJ Quik, gone have to check his tracks.

This reminds me of this Alchemist produced song with Nas and Prodigy, "Tik Tok"

Quik should've collabo-ed with more East Coast MCs.

You’re in for a treat:blessed:

The man is one of the most recognizable faces of rappper/producer artist, Plat hits, Hip hop legend

One of the GOATS of producing

What more you want from the guy?

Id bet my bottom dollar if i showed people his picture down here in Atlanta, 75% of the folks would not be able to name him. Im comfortable with that bet.

Bruh is very regional.

I'm talking about among hip hop fans/heads .

I already addressed things regarding casual people.

no you were not, you were clearly alluding to the everyday person
Most HH heads(of all ages) know who he is even if their not listeners of him

Naw, this is where a lot of yall falter. You only consider someone a hip hop head if they are familiar with EVERYTHING you consider essential, somewhat of a historian as well. You try to dismiss someone as a hip hop head if they listen to hip hop 90% of the time but dont go back and listen to what you deem as essential. I remember growing up (90s) knowing lots of people who were into hip hop and had absolutely no interest in going back and listening to 80s hip hop.

The second point you missed is, i said if i showed them a picture they wouldnt know who that is. Id bet people have heard those songs, but wouldnt recognize his face. I GUANRANTEE you most hip hop fans would know MC Ren was in NWA if you asked them who he was. But if you showed them his picture without any sort of identifying clothing on him, a large percentage wouldnt be able to tell you thats MC Ren. Same applies to DJ Quik.

Would you bet that if you showed someone a pic of the Sugarhill Gang that they would not only recognize the members but know there names? :usure: Im telling you right now Grandmaster Flash could put on a suit, show up to church on Sunday and nikkas wouldnt say shyt to him other than "Good morning Deacon. :pachaha:

Quit projecting what Sccit said on to me, im not saying the bolded. But alot of younger Hip Hop heads I seen do take some time to go back and listen

Either way, i just told your arguing just to be arguing ass im not just referring to younger HH heads im talking all ages so thats including old heads

And if you showed a pic here where I am at alot of people would know quik, espescially as his face is pretty memorable and noteworthy(pause) so people would recognize him.

Espescially among older Hip Hop heads which you seem to keep evading as part of my point. Older heads know quik and would remember him espescially ones who experienced his peak popularity in the early 90s and mid 90s when the West coast dominance was occuring.

Some of you nikkas just love to argue for no damn reason on this site, this very manner your debating me about is dumb as shyt. you taking what I said "recognizable faces" as literal to argue about if people will know who he is from a picture. :snoop:

Quik has an unorthodox flow.

His most recognizable artist (suga free) also has an unorthodox flow (and I'm speaking as a fan).

Dre had a basic but straight forward flow for most of his career. And produced Cube, Snoop, Em, 50, Kendrick who all have decent to great flows.

Flow and voice is a big part of what makes songs catchy. Again, not saying Suga free or quik have bad flows. But they are definitely an acquired taste.

There's also probably politics and Quik's reputation...

this is it.

the biggest dre / snoop / 50 cent songs are damn near pop songs. they are catchy and white kids in middle america can follow along and sing the hook.

DJ quik is more for music heads. He has catchy songs but he didn't really pop like that in the South and East Coast. His subject matter is limited and his sound is funk influenced so the boom-bap backpackers don't rock with him too tough either.

You can't really compare to Dre. Dre has the network and the machine behind him.

Quik is clearly underrated, but he doesn't have the same caliber of material. Not sure if that's due to personal issues, label issues or what, but it's not a comparison at all.

he has went plat and gold, so yeah he wasnt pop, and prolly wasnt liked by the east that much. but he did reach levels tho so hes above that level that I think your trying to put him at

His subject matter is limited
no he doesnt, espescially compared to dre, snoop. his subject matter is not anymore limited than there's. so idk why you listing that. Its more so how they are packaged, machine behind them to get pushed, etc.
