No one is really expecting another classic from him. But all of the rappers from the 90's are same way. People really ain't checking for the Lox no more either. I feel like people force themselves to try to like new Nas and Jay Z music even though they past their expiration date.
But rappers from the 90's like E-40 still make hits and release albums too. Don't sleep on 40 Water. 40 has had longetivity because he always had his own style. But he isn't in his prime anymore either being damn near 50 years old.
Same with Too $hort who been out since 83'.Jay Z started his career as a cartoonish Fresh Prince sidekick rapper in the late 80's and became a mafioso drug kingpin rapper after Kool G Rap and Raekwon made it fashionable. Even Pac called out Jay Z for being Hawaiian Sophie one year and drug kingpin the next. And all of Jay-Z's hustler takes are alleged anyway. Jay is Diddy status nowadays. No one is really expecting another classic from him. But all of the rappers from the 90's are same way. People really ain't checking for the Lox no more either. Agree to disagree but Vol 1 was better lyrically to meBlack Album is a better album.
Vol 1 was hit or miss. Jay was trying find himself on that album. Ain't hit his stride.
He wasn't under a slave deal, has good subject matter that's easily listenable and Jay paid attention to the times.
He is washed.
He's transitioned into a mogul/godfather of rap type lane. But as a rapper he's Wizards Jordan if he would have played for 2 more years.![]()
imo he got better..
volume 1 was dopeHe had ups and downs in his prime.
For every Blueprint there's a Blueprint 2.
For every Black Album there's a Vol. 1

Well thought out answer. That’s what I think too.Jay has a great work ethic. He constantly practices his craft
Even back in the 90s he was releasing an album every year. Back then, most rappers would release every 2 years.
Jay's style of music could age well. He wasn't the gutter, hardcore, thugged out rapper.
He was always about the fly life, excess, and success. Jay lived that out in his real life back then and now. It wasn't just bragging, it was reality.
In his 40s, what he talks about is his life. He is authentic and credible in that regard.
