Them Ricans you grew up with were probably Nu York Ricans or those that were from the island but raised in the U.S. The island PRs are different comparing to the Nu york ricans. Not saying you will find hood PRs in the island but even then you will notice the difference between them.

I've never met an AA or WA (besides my Spanish teachers) who was fluent in Spanish. You have to actually make an effort to learn Spanish, it's not going to come naturally.

But most young Puerto Ricans can speak English from my experience. I know people from there who are not even well educated but are fluent in English.

Ans the fukked up part about it, is that if you speak Spanish anything lower than 100% proficiency, native Spanish speakers hate you for that. . Its as if they dont respect you putting an actual effort to speaking/reading it at a basic level.

When I was growing up, cats used to gas up basic PR broads that looked like J. Lo and stayed on Fordham road to see PR women back in the late 90s and early 00s aka the white washed Latin movement of A-Rod, J Lo, Ricky Martin, and so on. The most white looking, basic body Latina broad was gassed up through the roof while the DR women were slept on. Now, those NY hoods that used to be PR, are taken over by Dominicans; and even the DR day parade in recent years have thirsty brehs going there and acting a mess. They Deebo'd traditional PR hoods in the BX and had a lot of PRs moving to Newburgh NY, Allentown PA, Philly, Connecticut, and Florida. Some even relocated to North Carolina.

Isnt that island currently partially under water without power?

Power has been restored to alot of main areas, especially the Hotels and resorts; However there is still alot of work to be done and seeing as to How Don't Cheeto's in office and they already in debt......the process is Slow.

Alot of Generators that were bought after the Hurricanes on other Islands went over there to the folk that still needed but couldn't afford.

Spanish is easy to learn, notice I didn't say fluent. You dont have to be fluent to be able to communicate. Alot of spanish words aren't even much different from English. Even though we have Spanish classes in public school in NYC, I learned most of my Spanish just by dating Puerto Rican women. Having a bilingual wife doesn't hurt either.
