Neptune beats are not simple AT ALL...
That's why they had no successful clones even at the height of their popularity...
They may had simple melodies, but to get "that sound" is the hardest part of beat making...At least, in my opinion...
Dr Dre beats are either professional musicians composing the music, or it's a straight loop/interpolation with no adjustment what's so ever...
Listen to Dr Dre drums, it's always Boom Bap Boom Bap, with hardly any fills or switches...
There is a reason why Timbaland and The Neptunes didn't have successful clones eating off their style...

I was gonna say something similar. If their beats were so simple they would have been many replicas. If its simple and popular, best believe their are gonna be MANY clones. For example Lex only been out a couple years and has already been replaced (Mike, Chop)

Dr Dre beats are straight loops though or composed by professional musicians...
He is no where close to being as talented as Pharrel and Chad...No where...
I am not saying Dr Dre is wack, he has used some of the greatest samples in hip hop, but that's just it...Looping samples isn't that hard once you know how to use your sampler...
I don't know of any beat maker who ate off biting the Neptunes...That's proof enough that their sound is no joke..

ummm, neptunes caught a whole lotta criticism for their style. where you been at?
and yes they used simple melodies, but they diversified their sound. the thing about the neptunes is that they wasn't one trick ponies, they were able to continue to evolve their sound and their instrumentation so that they stayed ahead of the trend and by doing that they maintained a long career.
