Probably because they figure American players will have a harder time adjusting to Toronto life... while International players will take well to the city. I really have no idea.
This is really the only thing that makes sense. Americans want that US dollar and the sponsorships and endorsements that come in the states. Nobody wants to come to Canada to be the spokes person for Pizza Pizza and Tim Hortons. It's all about money, and they know International players are just happy to be drafted, where as Americans come with ego's and entitlement. If they draft good American players to T dot, they just won't play that good on purpose until they are traded to a US team. Being traded to the raps is like punishment for these Americans. fukk the NBA. I can see the writing on the wall clearly.
Is there someone that can explain this BS? Are Americans only allowed to be drafted to American teams? Is this shyt rigged so that we always get 2nd-3rd round picks in the 1st round? I'm not an expert, but this shyt seems too obvious that something else is going on behind the scenes. Help me understand this shyt brehs.
There's that...but Toronto is just different. The culture is very different. A lot of these kids don't really have much experience outside their own cities so they probably don't really give the city much of a chance and are counting the days till they can get out. I'll admit, as a black man, there are a lot of things Toronto doesn't offer that your typical American city does. Like, just regular shyt that folk don't know. You know of a barber in the downtown core? Not many. Black hair product stores? Urbanwear? Sh1t. You can't even find Ralph Lauren here unless you go to a few select stores. These are small things....but add them all up and I can see why living in Toronto for an kid that grew up in say Richmond would be unappealing. We got mad Asians and white people here. Little black culture anywhere. The black culture here is mostly West Indian. I could understand how a 21 year old American could feel a bit alienated here.
On the flipside...an international player would love the diversity, culture, food, etc...
You're telling me that you wouldn't want Giannis? Solomon Alabi was also a 50th pick that he bought from the Mavs, so it wasn't like he was using a first-rounder on him. Nathan Jawai was a 41st pick. In the 2nd round, you go for hit and miss. However, this was the 20th pick in a deep draft. Masai found his guy and he took a gamble. This is either going to be the greatest draft pick of all time or a complete bust; that's the beauty of it.you the biggest yes man of ujiri. that guy is shyt at drafting. remember nathan jawai? that was masais work. remember solomon alabai the nigerian? that was masais too. I don't like him drafting these internationals, masai has his own agenda like tonight drafting a guy from basketballl without borders. last year he tried to get that greek guy.
smh after colangelo i thought we would street away from these international guys who have a 70% chance of being a bust.
Couldn't have said it better breh. It's really a culture thing. I guess they are trying to make sure they get players that will grow in Toronto and feel at home, not someone who's gonna be looking for his next trade when he realizes Toronto doesn't have Soul Food spots and Chicken and Waffles, etc like the states got on every corner. On the flip side we got decent West Indian food spots.

Toronto has great West Indian spots, but most are in the burbs or in places no one knows about anyways. Sh1t, even the Real Jerk which is the most popular spot in Toronto is straight up trash. (off topic) One thing I was thinking about the other day. There don't seem to be any trendy West Indian restaurants in the downtown core. I would love to do a modernized/trendy West Indian restaurant.... but restos are so damn risky. Need to find some investors with deep pockets.![]()

Our core right now isn't going to contend and Masai knows that. That's why you have to take gambles like these. Raptor fans are ALWAYS talking about how this core can't contend and we need to do a proper rebuild to get a superstar. Well, you try to find a gem, and instead of drafting a role player on a core whose potential was the ECF, he went for a guy whose physical measurements and upside was very high. You can't blame him for that.
When you gonna realize that Masai was hired to treadmill his team, just for MLSE to make some $$$. They know with the current setup they can't go deep in the playoffs.
NBA is a superstar driven league, without one you can't expect to go far. I was pro-tank before the season started, smh.

Bruh your delusional you probably a diehard so I'm not gonna go into it and ruin your only hobby.
