How did Cole’s ATM flop with all that promotion?

:dead:

How you think Cole's records are getting played all throughout the NBA Playoffs right now? Who's records were they playing last year around this time?

:jbhmm:

Kendrick. Humble was in the top 5 for weeks, including a week at #1. DNA debuted at 4, went to 7, then 12...ie it was a consistent presence at the top of the charts. Same NBA promo; both those songs were constantly getting played during the NBA playoffs.

of course Childish would have more views, he's got a broader fanbase who watch his tv shows. Cole is doing all of that just by sticking to music. i notice i keep seeing people picking this dude Cole apart for some weird ass reason, if ya'll ain't fans of his stuff why ya'll check for him?
:what:

You making excuses. Prior to the last few weeks, NOBODY would say that Childish Gambino was the bigger act/artist than J. Cole. Cole going platinum with no features
:wow:

Last album did 500K first week
:wow:

Gambino's last 2 albums only pushed 100K respectively, now you're essentially saying Gambino has surpassed Cole
:whoo:

You're excuses are weak all around, because Kendrick's Humble video went viral last year like that This Is America video did this year. Drake's videos consistently doing more than Cole's, and both Drake and Kendrick are doing 'all of that by just sticking to music'

You bringing up Cole's Youtube numbers actually don't help your argument. It actually shows how much more reach some of his counterparts have over him.

It's a cool song, but there's no real precedent to this kind of record being a smash hit. The beat has a 90s vibe to it, and the content is a tongue in cheek sarcastic take on materialism...once again atypical of the usual smash hit formula. The video was also unusual and played into the concept of the album and track, but likely didn't reach beyond his core following

It did pretty well all things considered

Brehs really want Cole to fail on here huh?

Good post. This is exactly what it is in a nutshell

either way i'm not the type of follow numbers as much as i did in the past, i care for the music first and foremost. all of that chart watching shyt is dumb to begin with. the real people who's getting 100 million + views are reaching fans who don't listen to rap or hip hop music. i don't even follow Gambino's music, that might've been the first time i've watched a music video of his.

I hope cole next album has outside producers and features.

I feel like his best work right now is his guest features and it's because he's collaborating with other rappers and producers.

His sound and singing is so limited that it's holding back his albums

Based on the Angie interview I doubt it. He said that False Prophets and the other song he released at the time were initially on the album he plans on releasing next year. So I'd expect more jazz samples, no features, all self produced.

Knew someone was gonna come in and do the "it's to advanced for the public" excuse:mjlol:

Cole(and this applies to Kendrick as well) is not that deep, despite this notiion that they "go over people's head" they really don't people know what they r saying.

It's just song for example this ATM piece ain't that good:yeshrug:
No one is saying that it’s advanced but rather more that people are stupid. Or maybe a lot more people like simple music, specially kids that drive views. It’s jusr to check the billboard 100. Check Jay-Zs biggest hits vs hiphop heads favorite songs of his etc.

There’s nothing complex about this song. You think there’s someone that can walk straight that can’t understand the theme of this song?
