no one is that stupid.

I'm someone who believe that majority of people r dumb.

But they r not lacking the intelligence to understand fukkin Cole:mjlol:

Cole's song is rather straightforward/Simple infact his whole catalog is that and people can comprehend what he's saying.

As for Jay he's no different. Only thing about Jay that will make people not understand is his references in his lyricism every now and then.

Beside that u know what Jay is saying and the overall point.
Go on a song like Jay's latest singles OJ and you'll see a flock of birds asking "what's he talking about?" and people happy they get it. Go and look at these white people do "reaction videos" and you'll see they can't get the most basic shyt.

Most people who listen to rap are not from the culture, they don't get the lingo and a huge proportion are also young people. A typical rap fan is a white girl in a Private school from Arizona, what does she know about OJ? Or even bars at all, they are listening to melody and beats. We're talking about simple very simple shyt like "Live from Bedford-Stuyvesant, the livest one representing BK to the fullest", might be Greek to these people. And the rest of the verse might be ancient Greek, only reference they get is Beyonce.
Back when ratchet was a ratchet and the vixen was a vixen and Jam Master Jay was alive, I was mixing
Cooking coke in the kitchen back when Rodman was a Piston
Mike was losing to Isiah but he soon would get his sixth one
Gave birth to my verbal imagination, assume a virtue if you have not
Or better yet here's a verse from Hamlet
"Lord, we know who we are
Yet we know not what we may be"
So maybe I'm the one or maybe I'm crazy
I'm from Marcy houses where the boys die by the thousand
Back when Pam was on Martin yeah that's where it all started
When Denzel was blottin' carpet, I'll pack a nine millimeter when Slick Rick made Mona Lisa
When Lisa Bonet was Beyoncé of her day, I had divas ya'll
Think I just popped up in this bytch like a fetus? Nah
Pregnant pause, give you some second thoughts
There's room on the bandwagon, don't abort
Marcy me

Bars and lyricism don't impress enough people, so if bars and lyricism is what's dope with your music. You might be limited. The idea about a hit song is to make it accessible so that both the birds, the non-rap fans, the kids and the hiphop heads can fukk with it.

Why is this a surprise to y'all when y'all make excuses all the time for J. Cole not having any radio hits in the last 5 years?

Anyways, do y'all think the track "KOD" would've been a better choice for a single?

I wouldnt base my view on a group of people off reaction vids fam.

anyways I agree alot of people who do listen to Hip hop dont know a lick about the culture and the lingo. But your selling people short, nowadays there is rap genius and YT breakdowns of songs and albums and numerous other sites plus articles about the art. so even though they may not know on first hand they will know by coming across those sources to gain more knowledge on the music. If not at the least get the overall gist of it.

you do hae people who fit perfectly in your description. But alot do not.

No Father To MY Style.. A Son Unique
I heard a song of his on radio hot97 today that was like the most forced radio song i ever heard. Whats his big song rn?atm? That songs equally swagless they could be one in the same. I was disgusted at the hook having ZERO catchiness whatsoever.
