I didn't like the song... I can't take J Cole seriously as a Get Money rapper after the Crooked Smile that was blowing up Southern Cali radio... seems like he's faking the funk somehow... maybe he does put out good verses or songs... idc and don't care to find out.

he does not have a machine behind him like kendrick and drake

He's on Interscope too.
:mjlol:

None of Cole's singles took off. That has nothing to do with the label and everything to do with people not gravitating to the single.s You can't possibly talk about machine when he's on Interscope AND has NBA Playoffs promo every other day of the week on ESPN/ABC.

His fans love the album. A lot of non fans streamed it. But now the numbers are down. That's not hate, I like Cole. But it's the reality of things.

he doesn't personally promote his music like other artists.

it is weird considering the NBA has been using it all playoffs though.

i'm a cole stan and i haven't listened to that album since the week it came out. a lot of the songs off that album just aren't fun to listen to.

You’re in the majority opinion about the album. Bars and concepts are great but nothing that you will want to play all the time

It's a cool song, but there's no real precedent to this kind of record being a smash hit. The beat has a 90s vibe to it, and the content is a tongue in cheek sarcastic take on materialism...once again atypical of the usual smash hit formula. The video was also unusual and played into the concept of the album and track, but likely didn't reach beyond his core following

It did pretty well all things considered

Brehs really want Cole to fail on here huh?

I like J Cole but he’s been put in a weird place right now.

People propped him up as the Anti Kanye during those two weeks KOD was new and Ye was spazzing in the news. It was like “At least we have Cole to look up to.”

But those shoes are too big to fill - his first pop hit was Workout Plan.

different type of music and fanbase tho. plus Gambino is an actor that happens to make music. like Drake.
Different type of music
:mjlol:

Do yal even think before posting. Both songs are conceptual records with visuals behind them that make the songs better than they actually are. And Drake hasn't acted since Degrassi, you really comparing him to Donald Glover/Childish Gambino?

of course Childish would have more views, he's got a broader fanbase who watch his tv shows. Cole is doing all of that just by sticking to music. i notice i keep seeing people picking this dude Cole apart for some weird ass reason, if ya'll ain't fans of his stuff why ya'll check for him?

Too advanced to keep birds coming back.

Most songs that will stay high or generate big views are songs that simple people can love for the hook and beat. Preferably across genres. We have some people like Kendrick that dropped songs that I couldn’t imagine, but that’s on rare occasions and just shows how rare he is.

Now if it’s straight hiphop, bars, not giving fukk about views, not even Drake is generating dumb views.
Knew someone was gonna come in and do the "it's to advanced for the public" excuse:mjlol:

Cole(and this applies to Kendrick as well) is not that deep, despite this notiion that they "go over people's head" they really don't people know what they r saying.

It's just song for example this ATM piece ain't that good:yeshrug:
