I remember Flex said on the radio that Jayz and them was coming up to Hot 97 with brown paper bags filled with rolled up money knots, 5-10 stacks, to get the DJ’s to make “Ain’t no nikka” pop.

The way the money was presented could have been for show to illude/allude an image. That doesn't mean much. People just knew Jay had dough at any given time.

He was with Jaz-O and then Big Daddy Kane as a hype man rapper. Are we sure he wasn't writing lyrics for them? If Kane wrote for biz markie...you sure Jay didn't write some lyrics that got passed along.

I'm thinking Jay penned some old school hits which may cement his legacy as the goat. Jay is one of the greatest....but if he penned hits before reasonable doubt the conversation changes....

How could you hear that line and think jay literally only hustled in '88 :mjlol:

Big Daddy Kane was blatantly against dope dealing. Aziatic black man that called out sucka MC's and was on a mission to get some skins....

Kane wouldn't have an active dope boy in his crew...he'd rather pay them to do something positive for the team. :jbhmm:

:mjlol: Ain't no way you're this naive...most rappers especially back then had criminals in their crew, especially security

" When I was moving weight back in 88"

Okay....but he never accounted for his time after 88 until Reasonable Doubt. Was he ghost writing? Still hustling?

We only have Nas account. Jay-Z cried on the radio about Nas account and said it was vulgar. Jay never denied Nas claims. Hmmm.

"In '88 you was getting chased through your building
Calling my crib and I ain't even give you my numbers
All I did was gave you a style for you to run with
Smiling in my face, glad to break bread with the god
Wearing Jaz chains, no TECs, no cash, no cars
No jail bars Jigga, no pies, no case
Just Hawaiian shirts, hanging with little Chase"

:jbhmm:

I'm not saying Jay never hustled anything. He dropped out of school at 16 and probably needed cash....but he was in the entertainment industry running around with Rappers by the time he was 18 and could have a full time job. Jay did no more than a ticket scalper type hustle as a kid. When Jay was old enough to be charged as an adult for anything he was in the music business.

Jay claims he's a hustler not a rapper. But by his own admission he was sitting at the kitchen table writing rhymes as a kid....he had rapper dreams and then ran with rappers at 18.

Any dough Jay had available was from his business partners or from legit music business at age 18 plus.
