Knicks: 93 til infinity
Same thing happened when they lost to the Clippers in 2015 and as a #1 seed to the Grizzlies in 2011.
It is kind of weird but when you've won five titles within the last decade and a half I guess you're afforded that luxury. Also the current roster's legacy (minus Aldridge) was sealed when they won in 2014 so everything else after was kind of gravy in the eyes of many.
Yeah I think a lot of people saw the Spurs winning in 2014 was like "the last one" of the Duncan era, hell I thought Duncan could've retired then on a high note. So the following years in a way kinda felt like "an extra". In 2015 they lose against the Clippers in the best series of the damn playoffs so it's an upset but not really when you see the quality of the West, if anything it showed the stupidity of the NBA playoff ranking (didn't they make a change the following year?). And 2016 they lose in the semis but it's LMA's first year so it's some kind of "transition" era, and tbh I doubt many people expected them to win near 70 games to begin with.
