Donuts are probably cheap as fukk to make and you can make them in large batches and ahead of time. This means you don’t need many employees which usually are most restaurants biggest cost. Also not much retail footprint is necessary either.
Add that with coffee and their margins are really high. They just need volume.
The reason they may not seem to crowded is because it doesn’t take long to get customers their orders and have them in and out the store.

Yep, donut shops in Dallas are like bagels in NYC.
Koreans make a killing with donuts, kolaches and coffee. Whites are trying to gain market share by making weird/tricked up donuts but ain't nothing better than a good apple fritter or jelly donut with a couple of kolaches.
