how do they, it seems like they just try to blow up from Soundcloud or IG/Twitter vids. i remember Kash Doll from Detroit said Dej Loaf's music wasn't really played in Detroit that much, it didn't played in the clubs, etc. and that she blew up from Soundcloud.

i'm just trying to be honest. Kash Doll seems to have a stable local fanbase, cause they show her love even the young kids in Detroit's High Schools show love to her. and she get her records played in Detroit clubs i heard. now she doing interviews with thisis50,DJ Smallz, etc and she moved to ATL and is managed by Waka Flocka mom.

Here I see more rappers doing showcases and open mics. Once youre on soundcloud you lose what makes you local. I think more rappers need to get back building their buzzes in their region instead of crossing your fingers and uploading. It takes more grit and patience and you actually have to put yourself in front of other human beings so I can see why some people might find that too intense.

But let a nikka try me

Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
Dej Loaf ain't grind that hard, if she wasn't known that much in Detroit. i think she had a mixtape or EP, and then 2 years later blew up with ''Try Me''

You asked how to build a local fan base...grinding is the way.

Dej didn't have a big local buzz according to you, that's cause she ain't grind...she blew online and ppl gravitated towards her after

you gotta get on the radio and social media plays a part.
The Sauce Twinz got the same buzz as Kash Doll but here in Houston

Get the radio and club DJs on your side, whether that be through dikkriding or financial backing.
After that the music just gotta be good.

Also, you gotta be a local celebrity, like people can catch you in the club and mall to know you really from there,
but famous enough that artist with the national spotlight know and fukk with you, but you don't have to have that national spotlight.

Nowadays nikkas hate on the "local rapper" more than ever, so seeing you with "real rappers" solidifies that you really doing this shyt and ain't just another nikka they knew from high school with mixtape

it seems like cats don't grind anymore b, they just drop a song on the cloud, waiting for it to blow up.

Dej Loaf is a very recent example. The oldest example I can recall is Soulja Boy blowing up off of MySpace.

Being that they can so readily put their own music on Soundcloud, YouTube, etc and possibly blow up.....what incentive is there to grind locally?

i heard of the Sauce Twinz actually. and i agree on the social media part but radio not so much. cause not that many people bump NY radio out here anymore, and they just play music on their phones. and with for example, Troy Ave, he likes to brag that he on Hot 97 or Power 105.1 but it doesn't matter cause nobody in NYC really fukks with radio that much.

that's NY

but in a lot of other places radio still is relevant

plus as much as I think Troy is wack, "About the Money" was a minor street hit
that was thanks to the NY radio playing it, at one point it even got some spin down here.

i feel like people don't understand the importance of getting a local fanbase, and being able to increase the fanbase organically anymore. i feel like people just want that hit song and just blow up off of that.
