This is a regional issue, and it’s time that we begin acknowledging that some black people are not like other black people. That distinction rests not solely at the feet of black people, either. There are areas in America where Republicans have fostered an environment fertile for the kind of barbarism we are witnessing, promoting the proliferation of guns, removing any safety nets that address the economic distress at the heart of this problem.

This violence that plagues segments of our community is NOT happening in Boston. Yes, as is the case in every hood, there’s violence.
